ecto-1 Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 This is something I've noticed, when meeting women from Online Dating sites, and we agree to meet at a restaurant, I've noticed that the waitress is 10x frickin nicer than she would be with me out with my co-workers at the same restaurant, or a group of friends. It's almost creepy....lol...anyone ever notice this?

Ruby Slippers Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Maybe because they think if they are really nice you will leave a huge tip to try to impress your date. Bingo. Also, studies have shown that men are more likely to open the wallet when they are being flirted with -- it rouses the risk-taking, splashing-out parts of them. Waitresses know that flirtation = bigger tips.

Green Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 I've actualy never noticed this, and I call them Waitres's and Waiters. Maybe its because she just ASSUMES you will be paying for 2 meals and she wants the tip... where as when you are out with co-workers she has to spread the nicess so you don't get as much.
SoccerPlaya Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 (edited) I have three possible explanations from being a server a few years ago. 1) The server is more at ease because you are with a girl and won't hit on her. There are some creepy guys out there who like to mistake a server's niceness as flirting. 2) She is expecting a decent tip. Guys typically try to avoid being cheap when they're out on a date. 3) "Love is in the air" This may sound weird, but I think happiness and excitement can rub off on the server. I LOVED serving happy couples or people on first dates Edited July 3, 2010 by SoccerPlaya

I think it's a question of who's paying for the meals in question. When you show up with a date, the waitress probably thinks there's a good chance you're paying, so she's extra nice to you to earn a tip. On the other hand, if you're out with co workers, there's a good chance it's being paid for by the company, hence there's less chance of a tip and less reason to be sociable. Personally I've never paid attention to it. All a waiter/waitress has to do is bring me the food. When I eat out, all I remember after the event is how good/otherwise the food was.
D-Lish Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I took a guy I was seeing out for dinner on his b-day. The waitress openly flirted with him. At one point, she actually picked up his wrist to admire his watch. It was amusing to watch:p I wasn't overly bothered by it- I was more shocked that she was so blatent about it. I still tipped her decently.

Yeah, I get it, she's flirting for the tip, but if I'm being ignored or she's spending far too long at our table, it makes me want to accidentally knock over my water glass onto her shoes. There are TWO of us at this table, bitch, and ignoring me isn't going to help with your tip.
JohnnyDrama Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I have run into very nice waitresses when on a date and all those reasons might be correct. I will also mention something that's possible, maybe the waitresses actually enjoy what they do and interacting with the public and truly enjoy the place they work at. I have had good waitresses and bad waitresses but I have don't hold anything against the bad ones.
D-Lish Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 If that was me, I would say... "Flirt with her, she's paying." We did actually joke about it privately. I know he was both embarrassed and flattered by the attention, but hey, everyone needs a good ego stroke once and a while! I didn't want to ruin his moment by getting jealous about it.

If she had have ignored me, I would have felt differently. I was bothered- and a little jealous, but I didn't want him to know that!
SoccerPlaya Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 D-Lish it's funny you mention that. I went out to dinner with one of my best guy friends once and the server was so much nicer to him. I thought it was just her. Maybe girls are just intimidated by other girls. I doubt servers ever actually think they're gonna swoop on the chick's date - that's messed up!!

I think some girls/women like to be the center of attention, no matter what situation they are in! She was attractive enough, but I didn't feel threatened or anything, just mildy annoyed by how bold she was. If I was a waitress, I would actually make a point of being overly accomodating to the female patrons! Whenever my dad is writing the tip, my mother always gives her input! It was probably all for the best as you got to see how he would react in a situation such as that. Well, he turned out to be a cheater:lmao:.
Gero Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Well, he turned out to be a cheater:lmao:. Oh... well... sorry to hear that.
D-Lish Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Oh... well... sorry to hear that. Aw, no worries G, it's not like you cheated on me! I found out sooner, rather than later- so it was all good.
