I think I was 12 the first time I heard that and it was my younger sister who said it. I agree but I've never been a tanner. I use 90 spf but I live on the water so even with the sun screen I can't help but tan in the summer. We were raised to cover up and wear hats to avoid sun damage. I've never seen the inside of a tanning bed. I think woman do it to look better for their own satisfaction. Link to post Share on other sites

Do you really think they are going to admit they are doing it out of vanity ? . I'm sure they're aware the vanity bit is implied. I'm not sure which accusation I should be concentrating on....as I never thought such a simple, and personal choice would bring out such vehemence ! Um, I'm in my 40's, widowed, not dating by choice, and haven't given a feathered fig whether men, woman or chldren like, or find me attractive in years. I live in Florida, I like to be outside, often fishing, I decided to not worry about staying forever young as it doesn't happen, and I don't mind the faces of the slim, happy, outdoors woman I know who happen to look their age, laugh lines and all. In Winter, sometimes I'll use tanning beds here and there because they make me feel better, a little color, a little less greenish gray, and a mood lifter for ME. Dating ? Impressing other woman ? I hate tan lines, SO I love it when a girl has NONE because she is tan NO WHERE... A girl who is tan every where just makes me wonder about when they went tanning naked NOT A TURN ON. blueberries Posted June 29, 2010 Share Posted June 29, 2010 i like going tanning when i don't have time to go to the beach. i don't know about other girls, but i think the color of my clothes look better in contrast to a nice tan, it makes me appear somewhat leaner, with an extra "glow". also, i hate the look of my pale pasty legs in shorts and skirts. i live in nyc, so going to the beach is pretty far for me, and i don't feel like splaying myself in central park, so tanning salons are a good alternative. and if i need another reason to go tanning, it helps my skin produce vitamin d haha. as for tanning addicts...gross! people who overdue tanning look so nasty. Girls are hypocrits a lot of the time, they go "women come in all shapes sizes and ethnicities" as a reason men should appreciate and love different types of women! Then white women go off and try to COPY latin models skin color as a way to "feel" more attractive and this silly notion of hiding fat with color. Why don't you save the money, get a gym membership and tone up to lose fat. Its rediculous. Look at how much shadow is behind her in the last pic compared to the first. She is also standing at a differenit angle. She is also NOT smiling in the fist pic. Take off your blinders and go look at so many before and after pics when companies sell products to females, the before pic almost always has the model not smiling. Women are horrible at picking up small details of camera and lighting tricks and are so eager to beleive ploys that are used to make a sale. lol they are TRICKING the viewer with techniques how is it not 100% obviously a SELL to everyone looking......?!?! boggles the mind. A decade or two back, this remote island of people that had never had Western TV got it for the first time. Within about 10 years, eating disorders and other self-destructive behaviors by adolescent females -- which had hardly been heard of there before -- went through the roof. Young women don't think about getting old - I know I didn't think about it. I'm somewhat dark and one exposure will tan me for the entire summer. I have started to be careful about the sun and wear sunscreen. I look younger than my age and want to pamper my body. I don't think top models tan. In fact, I think they are encouraged not to. I had a pic taken this past weekend. The photographer "added" a tan afterward in photoshop. It's interesting to see the before and after. I think most men and women would say the "tanned" photo is more attractive, sexy, maybe thinner. Link to post Share on other sites

pandagirl Posted June 29, 2010 Share Posted June 29, 2010 -I like getting my body really hot -- it feels good on my skin and muscles -I like the way dark skin looks (yes, it hides some imperfections) -I like that I can physically alter my appearance BUT, I don't go to tanning beds!
