Hi all,

My boyfriend and I have been looking at diamonds and they all have these different types of grading reports. Are they all the same? A friend of mine who is already married said that GIA is the original and most trusted - thoughts?

TIA!

I know this is an old post but GIA is the most reputable lab right now. GIA is recognized by the jewelry industry and the U.S. government as the ultimate authority on gemology. GIA does what the government would otherwise have to do, if GIA did not do it. That is the heart of their non-profit status. It's nice to to know someone is watching out for us as consumers!

Never really thought about the issue. Thanks for pointing GIA out guys.

Interestingly, I live and work in the Balkans and I noticed very rarely you can find diamonds in the stores - people are happy with plain gold and various other gem stones.

Does it really matter what grade the diamond is, as long as the ring looks lovely?

The only people that will look at your ring and think of grading are jewelers. It's up to you, but IMO, it's not important.

Congratulations mama!
