I know it may sound weird but what does your doctor do when you get a physical?

I have to get a physical Friday and I'm scared they are going to make me do something I don't want to do!

Someone, Please help!

I'm scared they are going to tell me to take my clothes off! My sister told me that they probably will! I can't do that! What am I supposed to say to them if they tell me to..there is no way in heck I'm going to take my clothes off :-(

Of course you'll have to do that - but they'll give you a paper robe to cover yourself. How old are you?

A doctor has seen plenty of people without their clothes off, it's neccessary in order to complete the physical. It's not gross, and it's not sexual at all. Be thankful you don't have to "turn your head and cough."

I know your going to laugh but I'm 18! I don't think it's necessary to take my clothes off and let someone else see "me". Nobodys ever seen me undressed before and It'll make me feel very uncomfortable..not to mention now a days around here it is freezing outside and I'm always cold..brrrr! My sister told me that sometimes they make you but other times they don't..I hope they don't make me!!

Get used to it. As you get older, physicals are extremely important to be sure your heart and other important organs are functioning properly, that you don't have diabetes, low blood sugar, cancer, etc. and that you aren't at risk for those and other serious diseases. As for female exams, many women have been spared painful death from cervical and breast cancer because they got a check up on time.

Any unpleasantness you may feel from taking your clothes off in front of doctor and nurse, getting a shot, getting your blood drawn or having a mamogram is by far offset by the reduced risk you will face from dying if you don't go through these experiences.

What you should be afraid of is not having the opportunity to see a doctor. There are many countries where people die ever minute because there are no medical facilities to diagnosis and treat them.

Good luck. You'll be just fine.
