mortensorchid Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I know others have seen this before and know what I'm talking about. How come people create obvious form letters on dating websites and send them out? They could send them to people at random, or those who have seen their profiles. I'm sure someone can and has responded to them, but I'm not sure why it is people create them. Especially the ones that end with "Have any more pictures?" That's really annoying especially when they can see your face clearly. Any thoughts on this?
Morals Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 I know others have seen this before and know what I'm talking about. They treat dating as a numbers game. My first guess is that they have gotten to the point of being rejected, even online, so much that they are doing what I call "redneck fishing of dating" (Throw away the single hook, and start using dynamite). To me it's a practice that backfires, because in an online world, people are already skeptical of any message being spam/fake/advertisement. Sending form letters only compounds that. It actually ends up hurting the legitimate dating profiles, because if enough form letters get sent to a person, they might end up deleting their profile in disgust, thus hurting other people's chances of meeting them. It's the same reason you don't visit websites that have alot of pop ups, you avoid the "bad internet behavior" and only visit the sites you know don't spam you...much.
Art_Critic Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 MC.. those templated emails are just lazy, married men or just idiots that have no idea how to date. There are also plenty of spammers who gather email addressees for their databases they sell as well on dating sites.. and let's not forget that a certain segment of online daters are professionals using online dating for their business ie: hookers About the picture.. if you only have a face shot then they are just asking for a full body shot.. nothing wrong with that.. It doesn't have to be just you.. it could be you at some gathering.. sitting at a table or whatever.. Guys or Girls it doesn't matter, if all you post is a closeup face picture it looks like you are hiding you body. That doesn't mean you really are.. but you just put yourself into one of those category's.
