Is anyone else out there in a Military Relationship?

Its beyond hard but yet you try to stay so strong especially during deployments. Although every now && then you just want to break down && cry but sometimes you arent able to. When there stateside && you are just a girlfriend you want to be with them every chance you get but its impossible. You have to wait for a lucky holiday or leave. I knew what I was getting myself into to before I started this relationship but I didnt know how hard it would be...

If it's your first one, you'll never really know what you're getting into until you're actually in it...it takes two very special individuals to be able to handle a successful military relationship...

It does get a little easier as you get accustomed to life without him, but it never stops sucking...:(

I've been in two military relationships. The first was when I was just 17, and he was 19 - USMC. His base was a good 3 hours away, and he ultimately was deployed. That was torture. We reconnected 13 years later, right before I met my ex (ain't that funny). It was like we were still teenagers again. I was so thankful just that he's still ALIVE!

My second military relationship was with someone in active duty in the AF, but he wasn't deployed during the time we were together. He had been deployed 3 times I think, and had just returned from Uzbekistan when we met.

One of my good girlfriends is a military wife (Navy), now stationed in Guam. Her hubby is all over the Pacific Rim, and I know it tortures her when he's away. But yes, like USMC said, it takes two very strong people - as well as the support of the entire military community - to make a military relationship work.

My friend's husband is in the military. He was deployed last year for 6 months. She moved to another city for that time period and made some new friends. Basically she tried to distract herself by making a new life...she got used to going through everday life without him also.

She said it was extremely hard and very painful but she/they got through it.
