Yesterday was my birthday, and it turned out pretty ****ty. It's 4:20am right now and I'm sitting on my friend's couch, wishing I had an apartment out here of my own so I wouldn't be stuck here. I'm living with my parents a 45 minute drive away, and they've expressed that they need more "alone time" so I decided to sleep over here, 'cause that's just awkward.

Nothing went the way I thought it would. Everything felt off, or wrong: bad weather, most of my friends were out of town, and I let my friend bring me to her boyfriend's friend's place who I don't know that well.

In hindsight I really should have set up a "birthday dinner" at a restaurant to last 2-3 hours and then go back home.

How does this relate to LDR's? Basically the only part of my day that felt "right" was what my sweetie did for me. We normally skype/e-mail/text each other, but I got a good morning birthday phone call, complete with song and kisses and the whole she-bang. I felt myself blushing like an idiot. Then after he ate lunch and I ate breakfast, we met up on Skype for about an hour, playing games, being dorks, etc.

That right there totally made my day!! But later when I was at that other kid's place, my boy called me again. This time it was a drunk dial. He was with his friends, who I know and miss a lot, and celebrating one of their birthdays, but they all sang "happy birthday" to me over the phone!

It was the sweetest thing ever! But it really made me feel that I should have spent my birthday across the ocean with them, instead of here. If only it were that easy...

ps not necessarily looking for advice or anything with this thread, I just wanted to get it off my chest.

Happy birthday! :bunny:

I am so glad I'll be with my bf for his birthday, mine will suck without him. :( I'm glad he made your day though, drunk dial and all. Your parents alone time is a bit off with the timing, it being your birthday and all. Parents. :p

lol thanks CE. yeah, the parents told me about this a couple of weeks ago, and it was the cause of a lot of tension between all of us before they made it known. So yay for an easy solution! But I told them I'd for sure be staying over at my friend's place last night, so they have the "green light" and I'd feel really weird and rude barging in on that.

I should have snagged a month-to-month lease in a place of my own! haha

I'm glad you'll get to be with your SO for your b-day! I had that last year. It really makes a world of difference! :)

Sometimes our partner is really the only one that can make us feel good about our days/ourselves!

I'm glad he called you and made your birthday a good one! I wish you guys were together on your birthday.

This year will be my first birthday with my bf and I can't wait. For the last few years, one call was made when he was quite drunk  and the following year, we spoke on Skype and he called me too.

I can't wait to celebrate my birthday with him for the first time and you know what, carvidep, have faith that one day you both will get to celebrate both birthdays and many other holidays together!!

Happy birthday!! :) Yeah I can totally relate, I spent my last birthday without the SO as well. :( Although fortunately we managed to celebrate his together earlier this year.

Chin up, keep strong - I'm sure there'll be lots of BETTER birthdays to come!!! :bunny:

Thanks guys, all of your comments have helped me feel better. If there's anything I learned from this experience, it's that as humble as a person may be, they might want to actually make plans for their birthday if they want a guaranteed good time. ;)

oh, and that my SO is awesome.

cheers to the future birthdays we will all spend with our SO's!
