ShadowBlue Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I've become interested in tattoos - and I think the right one on the right person looks pretty friggin' awesome. I'm thinking of getting a shoulder tattoo or back tattoo - one that's easily covered up for work but then I can just not care and display to the world when off work. So what's the general opinion on tattoos as they relate to dating? Yay? Nay? Meh?
Citizen Erased Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Used to be nay. Until I found out my gorgeous boyfriend has some. I was driven to distraction at the thought. And I pretty much still am. So yes, on the right person, smoking hot.
TheBigQuestion Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Tattoos on a woman can be extremely hot, as long as she doesn't have too many. They become a bit distracting if they're plastered all over her body.
florence of suburbia Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I'm a free spirit. Screw the majority. Some might recoil at the sight of my unadorned flesh, but a discerning few still crave the exotic, tattoo-free woman.
Tony T Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Tattoos are a major deal breaker for well over fifty percent of people, according to many posts I've read here and elsewhere.
TaraMaiden Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I'd merge threads, Tony. We've had a vast amount on this topic. That and porn. (don't merge them though....)
Taramere Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I don't have strong opinions either way about tattoos. I've never felt the desire to get one, but I think some of them can look quite nice. Like anything else that tends to go against conservative tastes, getting a tattoo is probably one of these things you shouldn't do if you're concerned with what others might think about it.
SadandConfusedWA Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I have a very small tattoo on my ankle (about 1 inch in plain black ink). I somehow do not think that 50% of men would find that a dealbreaker
jamal Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 The only one I like is one of those tramp stamps at the lower back. I can imagine giving a girl doggie and checking out that tatoo.
wuggle Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 They sometimes look ok when your young, but totally ridiculous when you get older and your skin goes crinkly.
harmfulsweetz Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 As CE said, on the right person, I used to think nay, it looks tacky, trashy and everything, but then, I became interested (obsessed more like) in a guy with tattoos, he has around three on his arms, seriously hot, I can imagine running my fingers over them.... *having a hot flush now* :o

I love tracing them after we've been doing...certain things. I used to think I would never find them attractive. Damn has he changed that. It's made me wonder what else I've missed out on because I just assumed I dislike something. I doubt I'd br getting any myself, there really isn't anything I'd want on my body for the rest of my life. But if he gets more... Edited June 20, 2010 by Citizen Erased
Shakz Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I'd like to get a tattoo of myself, over my whole body, only taller.

But if he gets more... I know what you mean, I wouldn't get one myself-but them on him (the guy I'm obsessing over I mean lol) Some people suit them, others don't. I also think it depends on where the tattoos are, and what the tattoo is. I can't stand the bands some women get on their arms, it looks trashy, but a 'tramp stamp' is nice. His are nice, and not particularly common-I think he has some kind of Japenese writing on his forearm the underside of it, and other designs on his upper arms. Hot.
Stockalone Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 So what's the general opinion on tattoos as they relate to dating? Yay? Nay? Meh? I never liked tattoos, but if it's really only one small tattoo (like SadandConfusedWA described) on a woman, I might be okay with it. However, all the people I know/knew who had tattoos never stopped at one small one. They all had more than one and/or wanted to get another one. Which is why I probably wouldn't date (or continue to date) a woman who has a tattoo.
sagetalk Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 In general, tattoo's give guys a tough guy, bad boy look which never hurts in dating girls. With girls though, it usually gives the appearance of being loose/easy, which is a good sign to guys just looking for sex. It's a bad sign to most guys looking for LTR's. The smaller and more hidden the tattoo, the less damage is done. Personally, I think they make guys look meaner/more evil (I have none and never will). If one of my friend's got one, I would question him about his life to make sure everything in his head is ok. I've seen guys get tattoo's when bad things happen in their life and they are permanently scarred by it. To me, tattoo's on a girl is a huge turnoff, almost a deal breaker. If she wanted to continue seeing me, she'd have to get it removed. Maybe the ankle stuff could stay, but the tramp stamp's gotta go!

Yay? Nay? Meh? I don't mind certain tats, like a lower back tat or some small obscure tat.....but when women start to get tats on their shoulder, I feel like saying them, "Hon, you're not a dude, dudes get tats on their shoulders" This one woman I was starting to see, had a lower back tat, that was fine, but she was considering getting on on the back of her NECK of all places....that would be a turn off. I was at a local swimming hole, and you wouldn't believe the number of women with tats going up the sides of their bodies, legs, huge sleeve/mural tats.....these were pretty women, but after so many, it starts to look trashy. The one that's a REAL turn off is the stupid "Angel Wings" that span the entire back! Now that's Gross That's like waking up one day and your 7 year old decides to put bumper stickers all over your new Mercedes.

It's so common now to see attractive women with tattoo's. I'm almost at the point now when I'm shocked to see girls in bikini's that don't have tattoo's. 2. My thoughts exactly.

Yeah, it has been a while since I've been to a water park or some kind of public swimming era, but these hot chicks in bikinis are starting to turn me off with these over abundance of tats I think there's also such thing as "tat addiction"
harmfulsweetz Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 http://www.yousaytoo.com/postonly_image/pic/375/medium/victoria-beckham-stars.jpg I personally love Victoria Beckham's star tattoo-I think that is when it is tasteful, and has meaning (a star for each of her children). Women have to be uber careful when choosing their tattoos to avoid them looking trashy (sadly, some women miss the memo's). Small, delicate ones are nice. Like a little pixie or something on the hip, or back, or ankle or something, that's sexy and cute, or something with meaning. My friend has a celtic rose on her back, and it's nice because she's Scottish, and it means something to her. Likewise, I've known a girl who had tweetie pie (an actual picture) over her shoulder blades and I thought it looked tacky. I would only consider getting one of either my wrist, ankle or lower back, and it would be small. So small if someone decided to break up with me for it, I'd be rather astounded something so little caused so much trouble. I do think guys look sometimes better with tattoos, sure, it may be partly due to the bad boy connotations but then, how much of that is media hyped? i.e. the bad boy in movies always had the tattoos, etc and the good guy didn't. There's people who get tattoos for various reasons, and not all of them to look tough. They like body art, they want to symbolise something on themselves, or whatever.
USMCHokie Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I love tattoos on women. Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head! I also love women that don't have tattoos. I love women.
brainygirl Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I love tattoos. I have two and want another one, bigger between my shoulder blades. But quality work is expensive and the artist I like is very busy. I think home made tattoos or tats done with home made equipment look awful, I know someone who's got lots of those (my brother actually) and they aren't attractive. I figure if someone is so conservative they can't go out with me because they are offended by butterflies and dragons, then I don't need to worry about them.
spookie Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 It seems like the majority have them now. They're not a turnoff to me unless they're stupid.
Confusedalways Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 I used to not like them, but I've come to appreciate them on certain body parts. High on the back across the shoulder blades and upper arms are all good news . I do prefer not a ton on men, though. I think anyone looks ridiculous with tattoos on their legs, I hate that.
