Masoshi Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Hi everyone. It was pointed out to me that I am "young" to be an OW. (I am 29). I didn't really feel I was young to be in this "role" but I have been thinking more about it after reading that. My MM is older but I wouldn't go so far as to even say middle age (which I would probably put at around 50, and he is 43). So, to distract myself, I was wondering if I could ask the OW what age they are? If you're uncomfortable with posting your age (as women so often are!), feel free to give a rough number (i.e. 35ish), or not to reply..lol!
joey66 Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I (obviously) am not an OW, but I am a ... um ... middle-aged xOM. I suspect that most OWs/OMs are, shall we say, maturish. At least those who are in relationships based on more than just sex. They have enough life experience to know their own minds and know what they want, regardless of what others think.

The most important issue, I feel, with regards to being a 'young' OW (I am in the same age bracket as you) is that you give your youth and child-bearing years to a man whom will not be able to fulfill your (perhaps) needs of settling down. You can't exactly start the ideal family with a man committed elsewhere. It wasn't an issue for me at first, but it became one.
Author Masoshi Posted June 14, 2010 Author Posted June 14, 2010 Oh trust me, Hazyhead, it has definitely become an issue for me as well. While I am still undecided about whether I want to have kids of my own, I do want a family, a committed partner, a home, all of that. I know what kind of man I want too and MM has these traits (yes, I get the fact that he is cheating on his wife with me, and the irony of that). But I was married before, and do feel I have learned something about what kind of partner I want in life. An unmarried one would be nice, however..

You sound like me It wasn't that I wanted 5 babies right away, just that I thought it might be nice to have the option... for whenever I was ready. Or just one baby... y'know... I think an unmarried one is kinda essential for the life you want... don't settle for less, sweetie xx
PG Love Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I am no longer the OW because we've been together exclusively 2 years now. I am 32 (was 30 as OW) and SO is 52 (was 50). I had 3 children with exH and now SO and I are expecting our first in 8 weeks.
MizFit Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I'm 48 tomorrow and became an OW just shy of my 47th Bday. I was a BS at about 28 and I have never been involved with a MM until this one. My MM is 58 the day after my birthday.
Silly_Girl Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 Me: 32. MM: 37. I hadn't really thought of there being a 'typical' age, to be honest.

Just a stone's throw Posted June 14, 2010 Posted June 14, 2010 I was 43 and he was 40 when it started.

pureinheart Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I was 44 when it started with exDM and am 50 now...he was 47...
pureinheart Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I was 43 and he was 40 when it started. Ohhhhhh a younger man:)... I went for younger men clear up until I turned 37, then they were my same age and then kept getting older (they did not me:laugh:)
Just a stone's throw Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Honestly, PIH.... we both thought he was older than me (I guess that's a compliment to me or at least I'll take it as such!) and were both very surprised when we revealed our ages and found I was 3 years older. Then he found it "attractive" that I was older cougar-like and teased me about it until I had to pull out the definition of a cougar which is a woman over 35 with an age difference of 8 to 10 years. Though he still liked to get in his "age jabs". I can tell you where his "younger age" helped him though! Wouldn't want to be involved with anyone outside of my generation. Too much to explain. Even 3 years difference we were interested in different music and TV shows growing up. I like that my H and I are 1 year apart (he older ). Ohhhhhh a younger man:)... skylarblue Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I was 23, MM was 50 when A started. We’re now 29 and 56.
Thunderbolt Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I was 28 and MM was 37 when it started, We're now 31 and 40. I was married before we started the A. We didn't start the A until I was divorced for about a year.
GreenEyedLady Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I was thirty when we started dating and he was 44. And we will be celebrating his 50th this year!!! I am planning the bash of the year! GEL
Amelia81 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I am 28, MM is 43. A has been about six weeks... not long!!! He already has two children, a vasectomy even. But he has said he would get a reversal for me/a future partner. Still wouldn't leave us much time, he doesn't want to be an old dad to new babies (but he has said he couldn't give me 4 like I thought I wanted ) Yes its not the ideal situation, or the fairytale one. But it is looking like I might just get the man I've been looking for to share my life with, along with all the things that are important to me in life. That is what matters most xx
