Tons of work on your car. There are mechanics out there who sabatage (nick a hose etc) the cars of their regular customers. While they fix one they damage something else. Could this be happening to you?

 

Any chance he is inflating the price you're paying to cover his "free" stuff.?

 

No, he's not. Despite being a woman, I am actually quite knowledgeable about cars and their mechanics. If I had the tools and time to fix things myself I would (or money , for that matter), but I don't, at all. A very alrge portion of the cost of repairs he has done for me is not just the free labour, but it's the parts he's had to get for me. My car just happens to be getting old and is beyond the 100K mile mark already, and it's not the best make/model of car in the world to begin with so at this point it keeps just having constant need for ongoing repairs here and there that add up in the long haul. Realistically it would be more economical to just get a new car, BUT, i can't afford the down payment on a new car, nor can I afford the monthly payments and increased insurance I would have to pay. The car I have right now is paid off, obviously, so no monthly payments, and since it's such a piece of crap I took all the collision coverage off of it, so my liability insurance is pretty small, only like 75 bucks a month (FYI- in the city I live in, 75 a month for car insurance is a pittance).

 

And on top of it, I make him show me everything he's fixed. Sometimes I stick around just to watch him repair it to make sure he's not breaking things just to have an excuse to make me come back over and over.

 

Granted, he takes his time doing repairs WHILE I'm there....something that should take an hour or two ends up taking four hours, in that respect I get infuriated that he blatantly takes his time just to keep me in the shop, BUT, I put up with it so I can get the bloody work done, and then I don't usually have to come back for a month or two.

 

Oh well. I've been honest, I've not led him on, and I even mention other dates I go on with men sometimes, and he still insists on giving me free repairs. He's an adult, and I am not being ingenuous with him, so as I said, in the end it's his problem if he's dissappointed. It is what it is....
