fooled once Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 What do you consider a long distance affair? More than an hour away (each way)? If you are in a long distance affair, how often are you actually seeing the affair partner? How do they explain their absence? Does the married person come to town for a long weekend? I can't image there is a lot of spontaneity since he/she can't just drop by, say for a nooner or quickie I found it hard enough to find time when we both lived in the same town; I can't image what it would be like if there was any distance involved.
jthorne Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 I think LDR's are hard enough without being clandestine. Email, calls and seeing each other 2-3 times a year doesn't quite cut it, especially when one can have a hot single stud at beck and call.
Mombot Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 The man I'm seeing lives 1200 miles away. Sometimes he's here in town for 3 months at a time. Currently, he's 200 miles away. I see him about every 10 days.

Never tried a quickie over the web cam then, hey? :D:D
Silly_Girl Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 2.5 hours distance between xMMand I. Spent alternate weekends at mine and met up for dinner sometimes, and he'd coincide work events to be able to stay with me the odd weeknight too. His wife thought he was playing golf on weekends. Lots of text and msn and email contact in between. Sometimes 'spontaneous'.

My H and I were LD. We saw each other several times a year - sometimes quick visits of a couple of weeks, sometimes longer of a few months. We would meet in his country, mine, or somewhere foreign and new for us both. During our time together, we'd live together 24x7. Explaining his absence wasn't something he really had to do. He'd always travelled a good deal for work purposes, and his W used to go away for extended periods by herself too. He didn't ask her where she was going or why, and she didn't ask him. They'd just leave a note on the fridge stating they'd be away for the other to find. When we were apart, we'd be in constant contact through skype, webcams, etc - we each had a separate, dedicated PC in our offices with a webcam on permanently so we could chat in between what we were doing, and even when we were busy, see the other person there, toiling away... and similarly on laptops once we got home. There was plenty of room for spontaneity too - once, when we were speaking about something important, I got frustrated by the distance and lack of immediacy and said, "let's rather talk about this f2f" meaning next time we met up. He shut down the PC and went straight to the airport and hopped on a plane, and I got a call to pick him up at the airport. But there were other spontaneous tokens - the hug bunch of roses that arrived within minutes of my having had a stressful experience at work; flight tickets wired through for a dirty weekend in an exotic location; poems faxed through; surprise arrivals at parties; presents galore... When you don't have the luxury of immediate physical nearness, you become quite creative in how you choose to connect.

Ours was in a way long distance, but in a way not. He worked close by. He was several hours by car. The flight was shorter, and he normally travelled that way. However, he was in town during the week with no obligations and we saw each other every day. Occasionally he would stay for the weekend when his kids had trips or whatever and he wouldn't have had time with them, anyhow. As far as that absence, he would just say he didn't want to bother coming home if he couldn't see the kids and would stay.
