Hi guys,

Well i didn't know where else to put this, so i guess here is as good a plae as any!

Around 2 years ago i split up with someone... now i've been through the whole thing and came out the other side - it was truly one of the worst things i ever went through, and in fact changed me as a person and my life (for the better!). actually i'm embarrased to say we didnt even go out that long - maybe 6 or 7 months... so i don't know why i got so ****ed about it all.

Things have been good for a long time now - i'd say it's been a year and a half since i came out of it all properly - and in that time i've dated a few people... nothing really that serious, but really i haven't thought about her much at all for a long, long time.

What my problem seems to be here is i thought i had 100% got over it all - this sounds ridiculous but this afternoon i was listening to the radio and this song came on - one that reminded me of here, and i don't think i have heard it since we dated : without going into detail, its quite a well known song and was in a movie and actually that movie was our first date.

So this song comes on the radio out the blue , and i'm just washed over by it all again - it took me right back, and quite frankly i could have burst into tears. It was so powerful !!! It really made me miss her ... WTF!

Is this normal??? After this long???

It's really made me question if i REALLY am over it all.

It is totally and completely normal to be side-swept by emotions for an old girlfriend/boyfriend years after the break up. When I was with my last girlfriend, we were driving around an old town that I spent a lot of time in with a previous girl and I was totally caught up randomly by this weird nostalgia. You just don't expect it and it can feel very strong. I didn't have any feelings left for that girl, but the nostalgia still had me feeling "washed over" as you said. I was with another girl in a serious relationship and had by all means moved on but was still vulnerable to that kind of feeling. We're all human. It passed quickly for me and I'm sure it will for you.

Thanks. Yes, Nostalgia...... that's a good word to describe it.

It will pass, for sure - but for a moment i quite liked re visiting that feeling for a little while - meloncholy i suppose. Thanks for the answer!
