shanny Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I have Lupus and severe depression... just wondering if anyone else suffers from it... and how you deal?
Citizen Erased Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I have lupus...what kind of symptoms do you have?
quankanne Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 hugs to the both of you – I've got a pair of cousins who are sisters who have lupus. The older one was 50 when she was diagnosed, the doctor told her six months tops ... that was, um, like 14 years ago? And she's still raising hell when she's able the most important thing you can do for yourself is to educate yourself about the diseased and not to completely buy into a doctor telling you that your ticket expires on X date. Only God knows that bit for sure, so it's up to you to make the most of what you're doing, with guidance as far as diet and lifestyle. I haven't really talked to my cousins about it lately, but as far as I know, there have been some lifestyle changes that were hard at first, because they were new, different, but they've since adapted. again, hugs from me, I can only imagine how scary and rough this must be
scatterd Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 My mother had lupus its a body immune blood disease that attacks your immune system they gave her prednizone which is a steroid and used for the flare ups because the disease attacks your vital organs.Back then they did not know as much they found out long use of prednizone was worse for you in big doses so now they wait until you feel bad enough before they give it.They thought my mother would die from it in five years she lived twenty something years it did damage to her heart but cancer is what killed her.I know she did have pain and depression it can attacks your nerve system and other parts depending on how bad it is.The doctor gave her pain killers also.Watch your body closely you can get the butterfly rash which is around your cheeks and forehead it is red. That is when you are having a flare up.They have the lupus foundation which will educate you and give support.Do not panic you can live a long life but be sure to see a specialists to keep it under control.Good luck know you will have bad days and you will be fine.
Citizen Erased Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I was on prednisone, it made me put on so much weight and really didn't work all that well. I have been changed to methotrexate which is far stronger but it has been a lifesaver. Fun thing about Lupus, if it doesn't attack your kidneys or liver, the medicine given to treat the flares just may. My doc has at no point said I've got a time limit left. I'm 22, I have far more of a chance to fight it. I get regular tests, I stay out of the sun and I eat well. I really only get arthritis which although painful when it flares up hasn't stopped me from doing anything since I now have the correct meds to treat it. This can be scary for some people that have it, I'm not going to freak myself out and think I will be one of the really unlucky ones.

pureinheart Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I have Lupus and severe depression... just wondering if anyone else suffers from it... and how you deal? My aunt has lupus and has had it for about for over 30 yrs, she worked and has had a full life....my best regards and prayer to you ((((hugs))))
Gold Pile Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I had a friend with it. It was hard to cheer her up, she was convinced it would do her in eventually. They had loads of trouble with the diagnosis. On the positive side... she does enjoy life in the moment and she's in her late 40's and still going strong. Plus it's becoming more and more understood, a medical break through is a realistic hope. I wish you the best
scatterd Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 My mom did gain weight from prednizone I felt so bad for her.It touches my heart to hear any person has it.I hope no one has to go through what she did.It sounds like they have come up with something new.I hope someday they find a cure but god bless any one with it.She was so tiny it hurt her to gain and some people was rude about it because of her bloated look. But they new little back then.I am positive people can live a good normal life but also have bad days.My mom had a big medical book and taught us what to watch for because it can jump generation's The book said back then they believed Indian and blacks were at higher risk but I wonder if that has changed any way.Big Hugs.:bunny::bunny:

scatterd Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 Pureinheart thanks It was sad growing up knowing what the doctor said about 5 years. I was thirty when we lost her she was 56.Now that im getting closer to her age I realize how young she was.She was a wonder woman I think of her often.
cookiecrisps Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 I'm 16, I was was diagnosed with systemic lupus/antiphospolipid syndrome two years ago, after about four years of being ill. And honestly, your not the only one who feels brought down by it! I suffer from depression and the SLE seriously does take over my life! It has effected me socially and it has caused me problems with my education too.!! I started getting depressed when I gained weight after being on steroids, I just didn't want to leave home or see anybody... And at this stage I was 12 years old, which was not a good experience!! The best thing to do is just refuse to let it get you down!! There's no point! When you have your good days use them to the full, cause you'll just regret it then on a bad day if you don't.! I've realised that over the really bad times and things aren't s bad anymore! Just take your meds and avoid stress and you be fine (: xx
Thermometer Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 I have both. It can be hard, I know...but we'll pull through!
