i'mfaraway Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This may sound crazy but what does it mean when a guy tells a girl she has really feminine features? Should it be taken as a compliment that he thinks she's good looking? Or is that just a neutral remark? Or it should be read that the guy is not making sense (since there are girls with not-so-feminine features who still look good)?
Author i'mfaraway Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Anyone? If it's crazy, feel free to say it. I just want help interpreting it.
sally4sara Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This is usually said about long eyelashes, well defined cupid's bow lips (the two peaks under your nose) and high cheekbones.

sally4sara Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 That's good? Yes, it is more delicate looking. Men can have these features too and they are usually tagged as "pretty boys" for it.
carhill Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Grossly speaking, from a male perspective, feminine is soft and rounded versus hard and angular for masculine. I can be big, muscular and hairy like a gorilla but, if I have rounded facial features versus hard lines, wrinkles and defined bone structure in my face, women will respond to that as un-masculine. The same applies for women who have hard and angular features. I've seen this in female friends who go overboard on training and diet. They begin to 'look' like men. Their ass goes away, their faces get gaunt, they develop visible veins in their muscular arms. They look great, objectively, but I find them unattractive. It's subconscious. Fascinating stuff.
xxoo Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Feminine features, to me, are soft bone structure, big eyes, lush mouth, soft skin, soft hair. Masculine features, to me, are strong bone structure (high cheekbones, strong jawline and chin, angular face), smaller eyes/mouth, coarser skin. Whether or not "feminine" features is a compliment depends on what he prefers. It is descriptive, but not a judgment. My features are on the far end of feminine, and I'm considered pretty. But, personally, I think the most beautiful people have a mixture of masculine and feminine features--like Johnny Depp with his angular face and large eyes/lush mouth.
Author i'mfaraway Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 That's the thing about it. I've seen women with masculine features who still look good. So the comment is really mind-boggling (though I shouldn't spend so much of my brain cells thinking about it). Like why do people even make such a comment?
Mme. Chaucer Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 My mind isn't boggled by the statement ... I guess I'm just smart that way!

For me it's like making any other comment, "oh, you have very blue eyes," "wow, you have broad shoulders," "interesting, you have feminine features." Neutral to me.
Mme. Chaucer Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 So how did your smartness interpret it? Delicate, "pretty," like the others said. It's not a "crazy" or remarkable comment ... if a guy said it to you, you should take it as a nice complement. Unless you are a straight manly man.
SarahRose Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Not feminine Jay Leno chin Broad linebacker shoulders
lab_brat Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 i'd go neutral - sounds like one of those throwaway comments someone would just say without thinkng about it, certainly not realising it would later be microanalysed for tone, nuance, symbolic and literal vs subjective meaning on a dating forum
