Did you know that when you buy a car today or in the last 5 years or so and go into the dealer and pick up a catalog that the entire catalog has no photography in it..

Those pictures never exsisted and are totally computer generated.. even the cars..

It's all virtual photography..

And this will be the demise of our species.

Everyone will be computer generated and nobody will venture out to interact with other real humans anymore.

Am I the only one here who thinks that the unphotoshoped girl in the OP is actually hotter than after the digital wizardry? Afterwards she looks like a doll, pretty, but fake. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't look at barbie dolls and go "She is so hot!"

Sigh, I hate society sometimes...

Wow, in the first pic it's like they took 20 years off her life.

For Jessica Alba, I actually like the before shot. It looks more real. Her hair looks better and the fabric crease near her crotch is just sexy :p

Jessica Alba is one of the most beautiful women alive. She looks the exact same photoshopped.

This sort of mass programming is so manipulative and tragic, because it works on the subliminal level. Many people know rationally that the idealized images are not real, yet those are the ones that turn them on, that they hold in their mind as perfection. And that influences so many decisions, including how people spend their money, what products they buy, how they behave, how they dress, and how they select a partner.

Photoshopped pictures works on everyone.. Have you even seen food look as good at it looks in commercials?

Agree with Ruby. People know intellectually that photos are enhanced and photshopped. However, tht doesn't stop them from responding emotionally to the photos and being attracted to the images. And while photo retouching has always been around, it's at a level and quantity that's ever been matched before. So I really think there are some great delusions about what is real about wome's bodies especially. I really htink there are alot of men out there that think they deserve the 23 year old photoshopped girl in Maxim because that's the emotional respsonse the Maxim wants men to have to it so they buy it.

Of the girls have had lots of plastic surgery..Umm Megan Fox before and after she is completely different person:

Every thread there are guys posting their ideal woman on there and 99% of the time the photos are heavily photoshopped.

Why do they do this?

Do they really believe those girls really look like that?

Who cares if they do? Why mess up their fantasy. I have my own fantasies about men so it doesn't bother me.

Guys dont care what the hell a women does as long as they find her attractive.

Yeah maybe for sex but they won't marry her.

They absolutely do believe it, and if you stop and think a moment, it is easy to see why. As Naomi Wolfe once argued, touched-up photos of impossibly perfect women are so ubiquitous in our culture that they amount to a kind of censorship. They effectively crowd out all other images of women. Men grow up with these images and think that is how women really look. Or should look.

It was bad enough when I was young (I am 40). Today, the "ideal" woman is something that doesn't even exist in nature. She has to be impossibly thin, yet somehow have shapely hips and large breasts. And those breats must be high and firm. Plus, she can't have any pubic hair. Basically, she needs to be a Barbie Doll.

How do we know this again?

Wow, that's sad. How can a person hate herself so much that she completely distorts her own face, which was fine before? It breaks my heart to see what humanity is doing to itself.

Wow, she looked so cute. I got a "girl next door vibe" from her. I don't dig the curls though. She had so much warmth in the her smile and seemed very approachable.

Hoesntly I can't tell when a picture of a girl is photo-shopped unless it's pointed out to me.

Do I expect real girls to look as good as people in Magazines and TV? Hello no! I know that those images are manufactured and they go through hours of hair and makeup to look that way. And even then I see girls walking around who look absolutely amazing.

Amen. Men aren't as clueless as they seem. Just because we respond to these images favorably, doesn't mean we don't know what's going on.

True but I am always more impressed by real beauty just like I am always more impressed by real talent over auto-tune and studio magic. I see women walking around New York in person that look ten times better than most stars. Meagan Fox actually looked a alot better back then. She looks very hard nowadays which is never attractive in my book.

I'm sure with enough "shopping" they could make even me look like a doll. But it would not be the real me. Its photoshopped images like the examples of women that give young pre teen girls the idea that to be accepted and popular, they -have- to look like these "too good to be true" models on mag covers. But I like how I am just the way I am. Also it is enough for me to make me happy with myself because I know there is someone out there who thinks I am sexy and beautiful just the way I am.:o

Erm... sorry, but she doesn't! Look how much thinner her thighs, hips and waist are in the second photo, and how much fuller her boobs are - plus her skin is more tanned, her lips are redder and her eyes are brighter. They even made her knees more pointy! I'm not denying that she's still beautiful in the first photo, but she's like a Barbie doll in the second photo. If they feel the need to photoshop someone as naturally beautiful as Jessica Alba, god help the rest of us!

I assume everyone has seen this video from the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYhCn0jf46U

There are plenty of women out there that are loosely "perfect" without needing to be photoshopped. Jumping on, and deriding professional shoots where the extreme almost "has" to be taken seems like bitter denial.

I'm sure most men here will know what I mean if they're familiar with words like "fusker", or even "/b/". That kind of pure amateur stuff, the most you'll see is often makeup.

Women like Jessica Alba don't need to be photoshopped but are. Exactly what construes as an "extreme almost "has" to" situation? A regular woman?

I remember a thread on this very board where alot young men were stunned that a girls boobs could sag at 20. Hello. Real boobs are nothing but fat. Not silcone inflated.

Wow, that's sad. How can a person hate herself so much that she completely distorts her own face, which was fine before? It breaks my heart to see what humanity is doing to itself.

I can't get over her before and after. I thought she was born as we've seen her in the afters. She was very cute before! Imagine what happens if she ever has kids and her little girl wonders why she doesn't look like Mommy. Brian Austin Green might want to re-think! But you know what's even more sad. She probably wouldn't be a household name if she looked like the girl in the before picture. That says something about are idea of "reality".

They've actually done a study that said that after men looked at porn or images of beautiful women, they were more critical of their own partners. They were less happy with the bodies of their partners.

Logically, we all know these images are "enhanced". However, it still sets a standard as to what defines female beauty that men and women buy into. Women will strive to fit the feminine ideal that men ultimately set. Now, we both play our part and have our responsiblity. But I see guys all the time defend these images in the same breath they say they know they are fake. But then in the next breath they are fawning over them. If you know they aren't real, why do men respond to them? What message do you think that says to women and especially little girls learning what men and boys are about? It certaintly doesn't send a healthy message. Again, which is why 12 year olds are trying to hard to be sexy. We've sold feminity as only having worth as long as your sexy as defined by male fantasy.

Mr. Nate said that men deserve more credit. But so do women. And we aren't being given much credit if men are zoning out to glaze over to photoshopped images while a little pool of drool forms from their mouth while they tell their partner that she shouldn't have exactly teh response he is having to the same image. An emotional one. We are told we should be above these images and not respond to them while clearly many men do. There is an unfair disconnection.

Is the embodiment of raw beauty.

While women didn't hold men to any kind of standard at all.

Give. Me. A. Break.

What if I told you a friend of mine told me a story about how his cousin's gf broke up with him because he wasn't enough like Edward from twilight?

Men respond to real or fake pictures because we're visual. We've been through this.Take it up with mother nature if it bothers you that much.

What? Where do you pull this stuff from?

First, Mr.Nate is a sexy man. Now, onward....

Hm, how about sex sells for men and women? So what do I make of these women magazines like Cosmo talking about 'how to rock his world with a kiss that will leave him drooling' or '23 new ways to spice up your sex life...moves he won't forget!' And they sell like hotcakes.

Women respond to images of men they find attractive all the time, and no one is stopping them. Including *gasp!* men.

The point needs to be made that men and women influence each others' behaviors. This is 100% fact.
