My boyfriend and I have been together for a year. We just graduated college and next week I will be moving to go to grad school. He will be doing the same in a few months (in another state). We love each other and I don't want to break up, but he doesn't want to do a long-distance relationship, which I completely understand. However, he wants to stay in contact and be "friends", saying that he loves me and wants always to be part of my life, and hopes that we can be together again in the future if the timing is right. But I think this is unfair--to me, it seems as though he is asking me to put my feelings for him on hold while he has the freedom to see other people, then pick up where we left off when we have the chance to be near each other. I told him that, knowing myself, I will not be able to deal with news of him with a new girlfriend, or the pain of always wondering who he's with and what he's doing, whether we're broken up or not. For example, he's planning a trip to Paris this summer and will stay with a female "friend" for two weeks, and I'm ALREADY driving myself crazy with jealously. I said that, at least at first, I just won't be able to talk to him for a while. He thinks I'M being unfair. What do you guys think I should do? I love him and don't want to burn this bridge, but at the same time I don't want to be naive and set myself up for heartbreak later. Thanks.

Honestly?

You're 100% right.

He's 100% wrong.

if you break up - break up.

He cannot dangle you on a string, put you on a back burner and expect you to put your life on hold just for him.

He either completely commits to a 100% faithful LDR - or all bets are off and you both have a happy life.

What does he think you are - a vestal virgin?

If you're THAT important to him, he will focus on the LDR.

If not - hit the road jack.....
