This is what I think of in the way people these days normaly use curvy http://www.independent.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00249/lovebeth_6__5feb216_249962t.jpg

I knew when I clicked on that link, I was in for something special green, and you did not disappoint.:p Although I did shake my head and smile.

I'd consider myself curvy right now at 5'8"ish and 127lbs. I am not skinny like I was 20lbs ago- but I have boobs and hips now. I think I was too skinny before. My male friends told me I was unattractive at 105 lbs.

Ugly Betty used to wear padding in her outfits didn't she?

I am pretty sure she did...

No, she's just plain fat.

I've seen JB in person- she's tiny. They are all tiny- a lot of male actors are short and small in stature. The chicks are always anorexic tiny...Like to the point where you think "holy crap".

Kim K. is perfect.

I hate to say this but many people of both sexes are deluded that think they are average when they are just plain fat. Guys/women, if your belly hangs over your belt - YOU ARE FAT. Not much else to say.

Kim Kardashian is not fat, she is just right:

IDK, but it certainly was a 'code word' for fat/overweight when I first became introduced to non-in-person, e.g newspaper, telephone and later internet, dating/introductions in the late 80's. I can't recall a single exception. I married a 'curvy' lady. Later, the phrase 'a few extra pounds' seemed to replace curvy.

If you remember Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, that was 'traditional' curvy IMO, irrespective of their star status or personal charisma.

Very true.

Curvy used to mean a woman had big boobs, and average hips, lean legs. She was never fat in any regard - it meant she was "built".

This changed when Americans really let themselves balloon into obesity as a societal norm. Since most people are heavily steeped in denial about their weight issues, and since society enables the denial, it's easier for women to call themselves "curvy" instead of the truth, which is overweight or obese.

Green, I think you need more things to fill out your day. You care enough about the use of one word enough to start an entire thread? You come across to me as a little insecure...

Thread shoulda been called "we may whine about women who ignore us and treat us shallowly, but over weight women need not bother to apply because fat peopel don't deserve loving relationships and only someone with the time, money and energy to dedicate several hours a week to working out can call themselves "not lazy""

that is all.

This fat girl who is also curvy will now slink off and eat a cupcake.

For a long time I could not figure out what curvy meant and than I realized curvy = fat . Beyonce is curvy but not fat. Most women who describe themselves as curvy today are FAT. End of story. It seems most web sites have "a few extra lbs" and "curvy".

From my observation, average today = fat as well.

So you have the following:

average = fat

curvy = even fatter

a few extra lbs = fatter than curvy

over weight = huge

Sad but true. *Real* curvy is actually good though. Think Christina Hendricks and Scarlett Johansson. Thick is that gray area between curvy and straight up obese. At best I'd say they're in the overweight realm if you look at the BMI. Once you've got rolls though you're straight up fat, not "thick", not "a few extra pounds", not "curvy". You're fat, obese. End of story.

Also guys, keep in mind the obesity epidemic in Westernized countries. In the US 66% of the population is overweight with 33% falling into the full on obese category. That only leaves 1/3 of the population at a normal healthy weight. So right off the bat only 1/3 of the women you'll meet will fall into a normal weight, so unless you're a chubby chaser and actually like heavyset women, 2/3rds of all the women out there are omitted from the dating pool. Sucks doesn't it.

No offense to anyone, but Christina Hendricks, while attractive, is definitely overweight.

Hm, now here's a question: Is it possible to be overweight, but still be curvy?

Because if so, Christina fits that profile, and she fits it well.

You really believe the overweight and fat women don't date or get married?????

Oh there's overweight and fat guys they can date. The figures are for both genders. However, one of the facts of life is that men are more discerning when it comes to weight and looks than women are. Just the way it is. Mother Nature is not a feminist.

America has too many fat people...it's one of few things that bother me about this country. We are pigs. Well...I'm not. But I see more fat people than I do thin it seems...it's sad, really.

I prefer to look at stick thin girls, but that is only because I am not curvy by any means...I have small boobs and love 'em!! lol I wouldn't like being "curvy". I wasn't born that way. I am a girl, though...so it really doesn't matter what type of girl I care to look at! lmao

but yes, OP, curvy and a few extra pounds has been taken way out of context. America needs to go on a diet... or at least get it through their heads that they are FAT, not curvy... sorry to be so harsh. But it's disgusting the amount of obesity we have here.

You know, Australia is actually 1% fatter than the US. And I can't imagine how we've achieved that, the meal portions are so much smaller, we don't fry or add cheese to every damn meal but yep, we are fatties. The world needs to go on a diet I'm afraid. :p

I'm curvy because of my chest, I'll never be stick thin as it'd actually be physically impossible to stay upright. :p My rule is once the rolls strike, curvy doesn't quite cut it.

Her arse is fake? WTF is your source, Perez Hilton? She's gorgeous.

I'm 30 pounds overweight, I call myself curvy, and I never have a problem getting a date.

So fine, us overweight/fat women call ourselves curvy. It's a euphemism. What I don't do is call myself "average" and try to fool a guy into thinking I'm slimmer than I am. I mean, I'm not disclosing scale numbers (it's NOB), but I'm not trying to pass myself off as being anything other than I am.

And hey, Slim is a euphemism for scrawny and anorexic. Let us Fat Women have some dignity in our dating arena. I'm no more interested in dating a guy who finds me unattractive than he's interested in dating me. So quid pro quo.

What I do see online are men who lie about their height (it looks like no man is shorter than 5'10", what's up with that), and any guy who's over 53 years old will shave 10 years off their declared age, as a given.
