Savanna-O Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Someones reply in the other thread has me a bit worried about my daughters teeth. About 9 months ago her tooth became a little loose (she is 7 btw) and with her compulsive nature, she couldn't leave it alone. She called me through one night and said her tooth had fell out, and to my surprise, it still had a massive root attached to it... so I knew she had pulled it out! I was a bit freaked out tbh, teeth dont come out easily. So that was nearly a year ago and still no tooth, someone says that it can damage the new tooth? what makes it worse is she did it again on the other side, so she has two gaps on either side of her top front teeth. I didn't think a dentist trip was needed, I just assumed they would grow back- but now im worried they wont and she will be left with spacey teeth!! Im praying they're just taking their time to come through, anyone any experience with this? Ohh the joys of meotherhood lol
sb129 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 They may be taking their time- sometimes if you have to extract a baby tooth before its due to come out on its own the permanent ones can take longer to come through. How long was the root? Was it rounded at the tip or jagged/ flat? Some people do develop without permanent teeth, some common ones that people can develop without are the teeth either side of the front teeth- but usually in that instance the baby teeth don't become loose at all. I would go to the dentist to get it checked out- does your 7 year old have regular dental checkups anyway- it could wait till then depending on when the last one was. Kids should be seen every six months because so many changes take place in their mouths from age 0-13y, some of which can become problematic if not caught early. Hope this helps.

It was pretty sharp and pointy like a bit had snapped off. I called the dentist today and have an appointment. Fingers crossed everything is ok. Thanks for the helpful info.
sb129 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 If it was sharp and pointy its more likely that thats the part that has been worn away by the permanent tooth underneath it. Glad you are getting it sorted, sure it won't be anything to worry about.

Good to finally know the possible cause.
