1. "If you're drinking, you're not driving. If you're driving, you're not drinking."

Simply put, if you plan on drinking at my apartment, don't plan on driving at all, unless you have a designated driver. if you drove here alone, don't plan on drinking at my apartment. If you want to drink elsewhere, that's on you, but not under my roof.

2. I don't ride with people who have even a sip of alcohol.

I have these rules because of two reasons:

1. Me and my mother were victims of drunk driving. The driver we were in the car with when I was 10 crashed when drunk. He died, my mother had a concussion and I had a broken arm.

2. A good friend of mine was involved in a crash with a drunk driver. He ended up in a coma. He's still alive but is now in a wheelchair for life.

People think these are harsh rules and it's led to some people never coming over or me not being invited to parties. I say I'm protecting them, and, lets face it, it's my apartment (in the case of #1) and I'm protecting myself (in the case of #2)

Opinions?

Good for you for showing some backbone!

You have every right to set rules for conduct at your house.

It's also smart,if you live in the U.S., you can be sued if one of your guests leaves your home drunk and gets into an accident. You can be held responsible for serving them---even if they showed up already drunk, and only had one drink at your house.

I decided years ago that I would never ,ever get behind the wheel, if I'd had a drink.I couldn't live with myself if I hurt someone...........I learned to have fun without drinking.;)

What's funny is, I'm usually the life of the party, dragging people out of their chairs to dance, etc.......and half the time, I'm the only sober one.Go figure.

Good rules, I had my younger days when I drank and drove and I'd never do it again.
