deebeechrisyo Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I'm running my first marathon in August and am seeking a 2 month marathon training program. I'm running a half-marathon next month as kind of a training for the full one, and I've been using an excellent half-marathon training guide on RunnersWorld.com in preparation. I have not been able to find a similar guide for a full marathon. Anyone have any links to some guides? Thanks! Also, lately I've been getting light-headed while running. It goes away after 5-10 minutes, but it really affects me as I have to slow way down until it subsides. It usually happens about 2 miles into my run, sometimes sooner. It's definitely not dehydration as I drink a ton of water everyday. I'm thinking it has to do with sitting a lot of the day then transitioning into running, like it takes a while for my body to "warm-up". I work in an office during the week, so I'm thinking of starting to run in the mornings. Another thought is that my body might be tired, but once my dizzy phase passes I'm great for 10 miles easy. Does anyone have any similar experiences to this, and how have you dealt with it?
USMCHokie Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Barney Stinson's Guide to Running a Marathon: "You don't train for a marathon. You just run it. Step 1: You start running. There is no step 2." I actually used this method to complete my first marathon back in October.
11bgentleman Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 DeeBee, Are you consuming enough electrolytes? Anytime I run or do any type of cardio that goes past sixty minutes I try to sip on a sports drink. For example, I bike from time to time. I fill up my camel bak with water and then fill a squirt bottle with Gatorade. I sip on water up until 60 minutes. After that I take small sips of Gatorade with larger gulps of water. If you do go that route, go for the powder so you can dilute it to what you feel is right. I also eat a banana and an apple before I go out.

Basicly keep doing what your doing by add mileage to you long run so that your at least doing 20 three weeks before then give move down to 16 the next two weeks. Runner World has some plans you can buy if you want or: Or: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/marathon.html The light head or dizzy could be low blood pressure you may want to see a doc, does it happen when you stand up quickly? Make sure your drinking at least 60 oz of water a day, eating well and not doing too much caffeine. Edited May 21, 2010 by GrayClouds
