Disillusioned Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I think some people just want to go to Heaven because they think everything that's considered immoral in this life, is the rule in Heaven... like it's some celestial orgy of drunken debauchery where there are no hangovers or STDs, and no cops to bust you. If that's the way it is, I don't really want to go.
quankanne Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 sounds like an immature idealization of the afterlife, one which tells me these folks have yet to connect God with the ever-after ... Devil's got a pretty good ad campaign going, don't he?
taiko Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 I think you are misinterpreting that 72 virgins thing. The only actual hopeful description I heard was from Michael W. Smith who said his praise and worship concert was just a taste of what heaven will be like.
Author Disillusioned Posted May 21, 2010 Author Posted May 21, 2010 I think you are misinterpreting that 72 virgins thing. Heck, in this life, I'd be happy to find just ONE virgin without having to deal with the stigma of virginity! OTOH you've got people like my holy-roller aunt, who think of Heaven as being sort of like Kim Jong-Il's North Korea...
Toki Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 though I'm usually not a fan of quoting Hitler, "Through clever and constant application of propaganda, people can be made to see paradise as hell, and also the other way round, to consider the most wretched sort of life as paradise." It seems that people have been thoroughly brainwashed by less than scrupulous propagandists.

LOL, someone sent me a photo of the "72 virgins" waiting on the other side: Catholic nuns in full regalia, with loaded shotguns well, nuns are consecrated, chaste chicks!!! I like the description used, comes very close to my personal belief of heaven: A perpetual seat by someone who loves me best, who I can freely praise, love and adore
magda Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 From what I've read there aren't a lot of specifics about heaven given in the bible at least. Feasting, seeing people you know, but mostly worshipping god. I don't think it's made very clear what people are signing up for, but they are promised to love it. What I've always wondered is how much funner it's going to be for the more pious and closer to god than for the guys who barely make it in. It strikes me that there's a class system in heaven and yet perfect contentment. I wish God would send us the secrets of making that work.
Lovelybird Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I had moments that I felt extremely joyful and want to be with God forever. Although that kind of moments are very rare, I think heaven is constant of moments of that kind of joy. And God does send us the secrets to live a life more closer to the life in the Garden of Eden, good relationship with God and good relationship with each other, this is the whole point of reforming us to be more like Him. I guess some people really do have more joys than others because they practice what they learned from God and have more closer relationship with God.

If that's the way it is, I don't really want to go. D, where did you get this analogy? My suggestion would be to hear teachings from the Christian community concerning what they have learned from the Bible as to what heaven will be/is like...I've heard a lot of teachings on this matter, although don't have a very good memory. Read the Bible and look in the concordenance concerning "heaven" and that should give some descriptive scripture.

Toki...think of where this quote came from...a man who killed six million of Gods chosen people...of couse hitler called it propaganda.
Toki Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 And are you suggesting that Christianity has a less ugly history? Can you say 1400 years of small atrocities is less than Ten years of great atrocity?
Author Disillusioned Posted May 23, 2010 Author Posted May 23, 2010 Heaven as depicted by Monty Python is very different from Heaven as depicted by Beavis and Butthead, and both depictions are very different from Jerry Falwell's.

Can you say 1400 years of small atrocities is less than Ten years of great atrocity? I would say any human organization is defected, won't be perfect, because human isn't perfect. And devil can go anywhere he likes

What gives you the notion that the Deity is some sort of pimp or brothel madam figure? Is it something to do with the naked cherubs you see in old religious art? I wouldn't be so sure about the lack of hangovers. Look at these two
Author Disillusioned Posted May 27, 2010 Author Posted May 27, 2010 Where in heaven's name did you get this crap??? From The Meaning Of Life by Monty Python. The Heaven scene is right there at the end. Also, my sex-addicted co-worker from someone else's country is pretty sure that's what Heaven is like.
