This is going to be the most cliched response ever, but i'm going to use it anyways. You know (as well as I do) that you cannot truly be happy (in a healthy way) with another person if you cannot be happy being single. And by being single, I mean being alone. Not dating anyone. Doing things for yourself and making yourself happy.

Absolutely agree with you on this one. We've had long conversations about this, and I'm sure I've even told you this from time to time. And yes, I've had long stretches where I haven't been dating anyone, and I'm about a month into the next long stretch of not dating anyone....so I'm getting rather accustomed and comfortable doing things for myself and making myself happy. I'm not sure that I necessarily said I wasn't happy in my original post...just that I think I'm content being single and alone...

It seems that you are unable to do this. When the dating pool is becoming dry, you go into these 'hopeless' spells. Tell me something... when was the last time you did something for you? To make you happy? Without trying (or worrying) about finding someone to flirt with/get a number from/date?

The last thing I did for myself that made me hella happy was going to the golf shop and buying a Sock Monkey headcover for my driver. It is one of the most amazingly ridiculous things ever...and the next day I shot the best round of my life with just a very happy and relaxed attitude (and I ended up playing with this really pretty girl and her parents...but that's beside the point)...

You're still young! This should be the prime of your life! Go out and have fun! Remember that conversation we had about going out to bars and whatnot with only the intention of having fun with the people you are with? What happened to that? You should be doing that every single day of your life. Not paying any mind to whether or not you are 'date-able' in another persons eyes, or how many girls find you attractive. You should be making you happy right now.

You know...the last time I went out to the bar was that Sunday Funday with you about a month ago...and you know that women were the last thing on my mind that night...we were just having fun actin' a fool...and hey, I even got lucky and got a number too, remember...? (which I still haven't called... :o)...so yea, I still have that approach when I go out with friends...it's just that I haven't gone out since then...it's hard to get the motivation to go out like that anymore...I'm not sure what it is...

But I get exactly what you're saying...it's just that going out like that is fun and all, but we all know that isn't the kind of place where you find more...so I don't know...

You're not a bad looking dude at all you should keep trying because women im sure find you attractive

The woe is me im giving up crowd is supposed to be reserved for guys like me who are unattratcive and women think are creeps just for approaching them and being unattractive so the rejection along with the humiliaiton just isnt worth it for m.

Im weeding myself out of looking for women with good reason you shouldnt at all..

Well thanks...but you're probably being silly with all that talk about yourself...I was a late bloomer and had all the problems of feeling terribly unattractive from a young age...so I naturally resort to that attitude during the down times...and now I'm feeling more "lost" than anything else...

Men seriously have no reason to complain when they are single. Stop being a little woman and go out there and be a man.

You get to create women... thats right I said create. You go out there into the world and you spot a pretty girl and you make her yours. I really doubt you are out there trying.

You also have to learn to enjoy the hunt. When I was single I was all about the hunt, whether it be meeting girls on the train or on a plane... I enjoyed the mental/physical game that is going after a pretty girl.

Its cool you have a positive attitude and all but the fact is some of us arent attractive to women and no bs cliches will fix that..

Nah, don't jump back onto this hopeless bandwagon. Even though I'm on it, I'd love to get off. A lot easier said than done. I must admit, it is pretty refreshing to see guys like Green who can shrug rejection off and keep it going. Stuff like that ain't easy to do, especially for me.

Hokie, you are a good looking fella, well built, intelligent, witty and in the prime of your life. If you climb back onto that wagon you are a damned fool.

Seriously!

For the life of me, I can't understand why or how you'd have any problems meetin' the ladies and... you know...

I know how wrong you are. If you actualy had the courage to go out there and try things, and just have fun with it, and be playful .. ENJOY LIFE... take risks... TOUCH GIRLS... KISS them.. .ASK THEM OUT... PUT THEM ON THE SPOT... You would see great sucess.. MOst men know exactly what they want to do but are to afraid of rejection to try

Seriously!

If this thread is his state of mind there is your answer. All he needs to do is be cool, and go out there and enjoy himself, and ask out women, and kiss women and bam he'd be doing great

You are exactly right...I have not tried in the slightest bit lately...so it's not that I'm whining about getting rejected...I've actually done alright for the times I have gone out...number here, number there...or even meeting someone who I'd see for a few weeks...so you're absolutely right...it's getting over that hump of getting my ass out the door...

I compare it to going to the gym, I guess...where you have to motivate yourself to go, but once you're there and start the workout, it gets better and you're glad you made yourself go...so for me, going out is the same way...once I'm out, I'm glad I got out and usually have a great time and in the past recent months (before this lull), I've actually done well for myself...

I think it's just I'm missing everything that comes along with a real relationship...not casual dating here and there...everything that I had with the ex...it's just been so long...meh...

would you guys mind if i say something about the whole military appeal to girls/women? i think it is absolutely true when some earlier posters said that women loooove men in uniforms, especially marines! (they tie with the air force for me haha) the physical appeal is there for a girl when she sees a dude in uniform, but you better believe the "what-ifs" run through her mind...what if he gets deployed? what if he gets stationed across the nation? how long is he going to be here/there for? yadda yadda. ...so yeah, saying you're in the military can turn a girl on, but she'll eventually figure out if you're worth the risk or not.

(ps. this is coming from a girl who used to date a man in the military. i have firsthand experience!)

huh...that didn't really pertain to the original post did it... so sorry! but umm, i hope it helped someone? lol.

Well, this post is consistent with my view on women and military men...the ones who go gah-gah over military men tend to be younger women who aren't mature enough to think about or consider the negative aspects of being with a service member...they are enamored by the uniform and forget about all the crap that goes along with it...and when it hits them, they're suddenly so surprised and either live a miserable life or leave with their 3 kids in tow...

And the older women will see the uniform but also consider the risks and consequences of dating the military guy...and many times they'll simply say, 'no thanks...'

But you're absolutely right...it takes a special person to be able to live happily in a military relationship...when I first joined, I figured I wouldn't get married until after I got out, just because I felt guilty having to subject someone to all that...but now that I plan on making a career of it...well...yea...:o

Yeah, stop the bullsh*t and just keep trying.

I am finally no longer single after 8 months of dating (which sucked, every single drop of life fro0m my veins) and found someone who is not only attractive, but funny, honest and succesful.

Guess where I met her?

A ****ing bar.

I never picked up a girl from the bar, but had I not gotten my azz out the door, I wouldn't be with her.

As a single guy I learned a long time ago you need to be open to any situation that may present itself, no matter how ****ty the setting or place. Just keep an open mind. It may take a mile of bitches, gold diggers, asshats, and morons, but you'll get what you want through percevearance and a little luck.
