JohnBGood Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) I'm in my fourties and just divorced. I'm ready to start dating, but I'm clueless as to what various rings on a girls wedding ring finger mean. Aside from the obvious diamond and wedding band on the ring finger, would someone help me de-code some of the various ring configurations? for example, Lady with a solid gold band , No diamond on her ring finger -- "I'm married"?? another lady -- large blue amethyst stone on ring finger --- "I'm taken"?? Can someone help me crack the code?? Edited May 18, 2010 by JohnBGood
xxoo Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Lady with a solid gold band , No diamond on her ring finger -- "I'm married"?? Sounds like a wedding band to me. another lady -- large blue amethyst stone on ring finger --- "I'm taken"?? This one is more open to interpretation, but wearing a ring on that finger suggests "taken". Keep in mind, people from some cultures wear no wedding ring, or wear it on the other hand. Only one way to find out: Ask her!
Mimolicious Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 A ring means everything or it could mean nothing. I agree with XXOO, just ask. I am divorced and I wear all sorts of rings on my ring finger. I feel naked if I dont have a ring (any ring but my wedding and engagement rings) on that finger.
Eeyore79 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 A diamond ring, or a gold/silver band, or both, usually means "Taken". Other types of rings are more difficult to interpret - it could be an engagement ring with an unusual style or stone, or it could just be a regular ring. In this situation you should assume that the person might be taken, and take steps to verify their status before you make a move.
