Asperger's a Possibility?

I've always wondered if I have Asperger's, or a similiar disorder. This would explain my very persistent social anxiety, and not really knowing how to even mildly flirt with women. Is there a somewhat accurate online test I could take, as a general indicator of whether I have this or not? Or some other method of determining it's existence?

I strongly recommend against trying to self-diagnose. If you're that serious about this being a possibility, why not go see a professional who can explore the possibilities with you?

Hmmm... I scored 6 pts.

Remember, there are other things that can cause social anxiety besides garden variety shyness, which is most likely. AD/HD can also cause social problems, and would be worth looking into also. Ratey and Holloway have some good books out about that and Thom Hartmann is great too. They probably have websites, though I haven't checked.

10 here, and I think the biggest diff between someone with Asperger's and someone with AD/HD is that those with AD/HD find it much easier to switch directions when something comes up--too easy actually. They are much less likely to get stuck in a routine, and less likely to go on and on about a particular subject. If anything, they will change the subject faster than most people are comfortable with, b/c they are free-associating, and it makes sense to them if not to other people. Either extreme can often turn people away, but people with AD/HD I think are better at reading people's intentions. I always said that I have terrible social skills, but I know what's in your heart.

I got a 12... but that test... I mean one of the statements was "I find it easy to play games with children involving pretending"... And what does it mean to "have your daily routine disturbed" like does that mean you got fired or got in an acident? or is that just like going to a meeting instead of regular work cause both suck....

Well I don't think that test could decide if you have AS but go ahead OP take the test and share your results. I personaly wonder what good knowing you have AS would do for you.

I scored a 24. Anyway, I'm not sure if I have it, it was just a theory. Thanks for all the responses.

Disorders like Aspergers are nothing but a clump of behaviors forced into an arbitrary group based on similarity with other people. I suggest not worrying about finding a name for what you think you have and worry instead on addressing the symptoms you are concerned with.

If you were white and I walked up to you one day and told you you were white, would that change your life?

Example from my mom's disease process..... she was very methodical in how her 'chores' were scheduled. Everything done on a schedule. One day, the floors needed mopping. It was on the schedule. However, my aunt and uncle dropped in unannounced for a visit and wanted to take her out to eat. She refused their offer because she had 'work to do' and was upset by their visiting unannounced. That was an early sign to me that something was wrong. The visitor was her only remaining living sister. They were close.

As for myself, 14 points on the test. It probably would've been double that while caregiving, or I would have thrown the computer out the window, likely at the circling black helicopter. ;)

That's different. Lacking social skills is a universal handicap.

Then worry about the social problem and dont worry about what you would be labeled.

I just meant social problems could stem from many different things. Some of those things are more treatable than others. Bascically, I'm just confused.

... I love expert opinions when it comes to mental conditions, you never hear people sharing their opinions when it comes to having a bowel condition.
