SummerLady Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I keep hearing that people that allow themselves to eat what they want 1 day a week do well with keeping weight and cravings in check. The other 6 days have to be strict and healthy eating of course. The gentleman from Biggest Loser promotes this and of course I have heard others say this. What are your thoughts?? It seems practical.
cuppa Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I eat well 4.5 days a week and usually eat whatever on Wed night (girls night out) or weekends (socializing/date night/etc). But I work out twice a day so I don't know if I can get away with it without my workout routine. Been doing this for 6 months, I'm not exactly skinny but I think I'm OK and will be happy to maintain my current weight/body.
Rorschach Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I don't 'eat what I want' 1 day a week, but I am alot more lax one day a week than otherwise, I probably have one good snack I wouldn't normally have, Today it was a small bowl of ice cream, last week it was a bowl of popcorn, I still make good progress on my weight loss goals. I think if you're not actively trying to lose weight, but only maintain, you can be ALOT more lax in your diet. But I find just enjoying myself a little a day a week works well.

I am going to see if this helps me with my cravings...
Fouts Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Calories and your body weight are related more on a weekly basis than daily. A cheat meal if you still have alot to lose or a cheat day if you're already in good shape can help jumpstart your metabolism. It's a good thing.
allina Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 I usually eat what I want, while making smart choices. I'm also more strict during the weekday, mostly because I eat out a lot and drink during the weekday. I don't think one should completely stay away from any foods, it's better to learn about portion control and making good overall choices.
tman666 Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 If you're on a strict diet, a "cheat" meal can be a good way to keep you on track because it will put you back in the right frame of mind and make you feel better. That being said, this meal should still be healthy. A cheat meal doesn't imply going to the Chinese buffet and loading up with 10,000 calories. If you keep the cheat meal reasonable it can be good.

You'll notice that you don't eat alot the rest of the day when you have a big, satisfying cheat meal, which is how the calories tend to balance out. Also, if you have a big enough cheat meal, you'll notice that you perspire quite a bit either during or soon after, that's normal.

There are certain foods I cannot eat, like cookies. Even though I did the one day I am now craving junk all week, this is not a good plan for me, oh well.........I tried...
