SoConfusledandHurt Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 Have any of you taken the free myers briggs inspired personality tests online? (google that and you will see one powered by jung) Just found out me and my fiance are polar opposites... Do you think opposites can make it work, or are we just fighting an uphill battle?
alphamale Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 some couples work well as opposites and some don't. its hard to tell until you are well into the relationship.
xxoo Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 There is no simple answer to this... Some of our differences are strengths. We balance each other, complement each other. For example, our different aptitudes. Some of our differences are neutral. For example, our different interests and hobbies--as long as we have a core set of shared interests. Some differences can be fatal to the relationship. These are the "dealbreakers". It can take a while to settle into a relationship and really recognize a dealbreaker that is not going to change or improve. A lot of times, we see the very best in people we are dating, and underestimate how much a dealbreaker will bother us after the newness has worn off.

A lot of times, we see the very best in people we are dating, and underestimate how much a dealbreaker will bother us after the newness has worn off. This is a biggie. Some differences are overcomeable. My H and I are fairly opposite when it comes to politics. I'm also an optimist and he is a cynic. I am a homebody and he's always wanting to go go go. In some ways it helps each other being opposite. He helps me keep from being overly optimistic and be more realistic. I keep him from being bitter with cynisism. We both love to argue so that works for the politics. Some areas I don't think are overcomeable. Religion is a very hard one to overcome. Morals are another hard one. One who is very outgoing and someone who is insecure wouldn't work too well either. It also depends on how accepting you are of differences. Some people do not take differences of opinion personally, but a lot of people do. And those people, never should married an opposite. CCL
