Most threads on here are from people hoping for a second chance, and I just wanted to make a post showing that sometimes it happens, from the perspective of the person being asked for the second chance.

 

I broke up with my girlfriend for a couple days in order to get her to agree to talk to a therapist about the issues that caused her first marriage to implode. After a couple days apart, we met up, and we started over in certain respects, and she is following through on getting therapy, and I agreed to keep our relationship alive and help see her through it.

 

She didn't make me feel guilty about my decision, she didn't nag me, and she didn't bombard me with sappy messages during the short break. She treated me with dignity, acknowledged my concerns, and then took concrete measures to compromise with me.

 

She told me flat out that she is going to fight for 'us', that she wasn't really looking for someone like me, but that I fell into her life and now she's going to make sure I stay in it.

 

I'm pretty sure she is going to be my wife sooner rather than later.

Happy to hear that. If you find the right therapist, and are both dedicated to a recovery, it can truly be one of the best decisions of your life.

 

Had another guy not been involved, I would have tried to do the same with my ex when things imploded back in March. However, as she was actively seeing the OM I was forced to push her away.

Thats great news!!! but the diff is you were willing to give her that. You were willing to stick around so she could fix her problems, my ex wasn't I wanted help, I realized all the mistakes and insecurities I had and wanted to fight like hell to fix those he couldn't see how, he didn't think I could change not as a person but the problems that came about. I told him all this and he said he couldn't hurt anymore he couldn't make me happy and gave up. I'm glad she was worth fighting for. Good luck!!!
