My girlfriend has anorexia. She has had it for 3 years, physically the worst of it seems to be over. As she is too afraid to become too underweight. However she is very afraid of gaining weight and always wants to be thin. she took a different approach this year and wants to be thin and healthy. she is using the law of attraction to achieve this she says.

I don't know what to believe.

She currently looks healthy with a bmi on the low side. but still in the average range.

However things she says and does really worry me.

Today she said something that has confused me, i don't know if it is a step in the right direction or an excuse, or what.

We were chatting online and she said

her: the shunn is shinningg

Her: =D

Her: finally yesterday I was just talking myself into accepting it

Her: ahahaha and today it happened

Her: I AM FREEEEEEE

I will never have to takeeee

any of theeeemmmm everrrr

evvverrr in my lifee

Me: take any of whats my sweeetie

Her: no olanzapine or antidpressants everrrrrrr

in my lifesssh

=D

cause I am freeeeee

and I can do whateverrrrr and and and I have my own liife and I am in control

and food doesn't own meeeeee

I owwwwn herrrr

yesterday she wrote:

Her alter ego (the side of her that allows the anorexia) talking to herself that had a frappucino :

I fit you into a size 0, loser, put that Frappucino down! We share the same body I make the rules!!!! 500 squats as punishment... NOW! no food tomorrow! I mean IT!

and today as she said she now accepts the disease she wrote :

had a greattt great day and finally loves her sister (alter ego) back as she didn't have a bite since 7 am, and she finally learned how to embrace her disease :D ... congratssss! :D Cause acceptance is besst! Ana and proud :D

No Zyprexa everrr agaainn no Xanax hehehehe I am freeeeeee!!!! :D

so she did eat today, breakfast at 7am and dinner tonight 12 hours later at 7pm. She had a nap and woke up with stomach pains. which since passed.

I am trying to be very patient and basically just listen to her and support her while i am trying to get my head around it and find a good point of attack. in terms of guiding her the right way. She wont get professional help in the country she currently lives in as previously the doctors have been quite corrupt and were no help emotionally or mentally at all, in fact they made it worse. and left her with a lot of hurt and anger. In a few months she will be moving with me to a new better country and i hope to find her a great doctor there if this step turns out to be something undesirable.

Is she really accepting it? and does accepting it help? embracing anorexia? :S :S

I am going to call around some help lines tmrw too and see what they say.

If you have any thoughts please help

thankyou!

I have recovered from anorexia and it never really goes away. You will always been an anorexic( like someone who hasn't had a drink in 5 years is still an alcoholic). However, she should not have stopped taking her medication, unless the doctor told her to stop, but I doubt that. Antidepressants are a common treatment for eating disorders. She does not sound as though she has recovered, at at all. Since she said No food tomorrow, 500 squats for eating the frap...

It's so dangerous for your heart to be an anorexic (because once there is no fat to eat, your body moves on and begins to eat away at your heart muscle for nourishment)

There is nothing you can do though, she needs to take her medication though, she also needs to find a better doctor..

Eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia are more than a diet plan, they are very unhealthy and even life-threatening.:bunny:

I agree, that eating disorders are never "healed" but they can be in remission. I had binge eating disorder which has been in remission for years. I still feel tendencies sometimes and I can't eat certain foods. Sometimes I have to put gum in my mouth to counteract the urge to eat more.

I think she is still struggling with it as well. Do you know why she stopped taking her meds?
