SomewhatExperienced Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I was wondering what people's opinions are on text messaging/facebook to ask someone out and/or break up with them. This does not include small talk like, "have a good one, lol", or "I'm running 10 minutes late". Do you do it yourself? How do you feel when other people do it to you? Is it okay, or is it disrespectful?
Pyro Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Lame Show some confidence and call the person. IMO texting is a form of being a coward.
Kaplan Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I think it's bad to do it for significant stuff. Particularly if you dumped someone over text message, they would be thinking "Was that really him/her? Or just a friend playing a joke?"
phineas Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Just call. If you get VM ask them to call you back. Give it 3 days then forget about them if they don't get back to you.
stillafool Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I was wondering what people's opinions are on text messaging/facebook to ask someone out and/or break up with them. It is the epitomy of tackiness.
BobSacamento Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Totally weak - as someone who has done it and has had it done to himself lol.
Pfiend101 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Breaking up over text is totally tacky and selfish as a dumper. I have had it done to me once and sort of a second time. Texting little messages here and there not a big deal. But find your nuts and break up in person.
tigressA Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Texting to ask someone out/break up with them is EPIC FAIL. So unbelievably lame and cowardly. I also don't like texting in general anyway--I had to put a text block on my phone so that my friends would stop trying to have entire conversations with me via text!!
sigurpol Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Texting for a break up = no guts and a cowardly act. I hope there's a special place in hell for people like this. I only feel so strongly because it happened to me, as a 25 year old. I couldn't believe it, hahaha. If you're breaking up with someone, you owe them something. Just do it, meet with them, and lay it out. I'm more of a phone call guy, so I like phone calls much more than texts. Little more genuine and meaningful.
phineas Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Texting for a break up = no guts and a cowardly act. I hope there's a special place in hell for people like this. There is. It's right next door to people who paint brick houses.
stillafool Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Do you guys think it is appropriate to break up over the phone? I can understand if you live far away from the person, but in general.
