heartmonster Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 In the past 2 years my live in boyfriend has come home twice smelling like strong strange perfume. The first time I was really respectful and simply said .." can you please take a shower because you smell like strange perfume,." he freaked out,. yelled at me and said i was crazy,. the second time ( which was last night) i simply ignored it and went to sleep,. since i obviously didnt get anything out of it last time. Do you think this is just me going crazy? He could have just been carrying something that smelled strong.. since he works and goes to school obviously with girls. Am I just being a crazy jealous bitch,.? how could i even talk about this without starting a fight?
kiss_andmakeup Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 My initial response after reading the first few sentences was going to be that, unless you have other reasons you don't trust him or are otherwise suspicious, I wouldn't worry about it. Until I read the bolded part: In the past 2 years my live in boyfriend has come home twice smelling like strong strange perfume. The first time I was really respectful and simply said .." can you please take a shower because you smell like strange perfume,." he freaked out,. yelled at me and said i was crazy,. the second time ( which was last night) i simply ignored it and went to sleep,. since i obviously didnt get anything out of it last time. Anyone who instantly goes on the defensive when you said nothing hurtful or rude or even accusatory, is hiding something. That's a trademark move.
Fouts Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I've had female co-workers innocently hug me who are perfume factories. It can leave the scent for the rest of the day. It could be a red flag that he freaked out though, as pointed out. I simply would've said "so and so hugged me and she wears a ton of perfume", or whatever the case may be. His remark was a tad defensive.
Author heartmonster Posted May 4, 2010 Author Posted May 4, 2010 thank you guys,. He is usually a stress ball which could also be the reason why he freaked out. Im also always extremely openly jealous,. (something I really need to work on),. so maybe he was just annoyed with me,. but it really doesn't help when something like this happens.
Bleed Internal Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 extreme freakouts over simple accusations are a huge red flag. two months before i found out that my ex-girlfriend was cheating, i noticed driving directions to another the guy's place in her web history. when i asked her about it, she absolutely lost it, flipped over tables and everything.
make me believe Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 I totally agree that his freaking out is a big red flag! Imagine if you came home smelling like cologne and your bf asked you nicely about it. Would you scream at him and call him crazy, or try to reassure him with a logical explanation? You shouldn't let him yell at you, and you shouldn't let his yelling & screaming prevent you from getting your answers, because that's most likely what he wants.
