If a guy told you that his parents had been divorced for 3 years because his dad fell in love with a guy and left his mom for a guy, would you be worried that the guy might be gay, too, but doesn't realize it yet?

Is homosexuality inherited? (like father like son is what I'm saying?)

Just wondering.

If someone told you that all things pink are gay, would Pink Cupcakes be gay too?

If it was found to be genetic, it would be seen as an undesireable mutation to those who are against gay people. Then their will be gene therapy, and treatments to try and cure it. It will be treated like a disease. That would set back the gay rights movement so far.

And saying being gay is like having brown eyes is a pretty large leap of logic. Gays have been persecuted for over a millenia, and even in this day in age, still don't have all the rights that heterosexuals enjoy. No one has ever not been given a job, been arrested, or been killed because they had brown eyes.

With the amount of hate out there for gays, if it is found to be genetic tomorrow, then gay hate groups will immediately go to work trying to "cure" it. Some already claim to have a treatment plan for "gayness". And it usually leads to a life of unhappiness and loneliness for those who go through it.

I'm usually all for scientific advancement, but to me trying to find out why people are gay is like trying to find proof of god's existence. People will see all kinds of things that will make them believe that that is the proof/reason, and will swear they know the truth. But the only truth is knowing that there is no definitive truth, and to just accept the outcome at face value. We live in a world with gay people, and that is not changing anytime soon. Just accept them as full fledged humans like everyone else, and move on. We have more important things to worry about like cancer and hunger.

Whoa, I think you totally misread what I was trying to say...

wow, where to start.

I did not say being gay was like having brown eyes. What I was saying that if/when it was proven to be a genetic phenomenon that it would become more socially acceptable to people instead of being subjected to the fire and brimstone crowd (and I am a Mormon too, weaknesses aside LOL).

What I said was that one day it would be nice if everyone found it as socially acceptable as they currently find brown eyes to be.

And I am sure that people with brown eyes have been discriminated against. From what I know the folks in Nazi Germany were aiming for a "pure" population that did not include those with brown eyes.

I do accept a world full of gay people. Even if I had a problem with it which I stated earlier that I don't, what could I really do? I am not about to join some anti group or act like a nut. So whatever.

I think there is a definitive truth to why all of us are the way we are, not just our sexual orientation. Although I do think there are reasons that I would sleep with certain people and I would be curious to know what mental/biological drivers there are. If I had a choice between knowing my inner mysteries or curing cancer or solving hunger. I would solve hunger or cure cancer first before delving into my sexual intrigues. But in reality people are going to study both. I don't see anything *wrong* with studying why the gay are gay anymore then I see anything wrong with studying why the duck-billed platypus came to be. It's all academic. It is the reaction from nutjobs (why are nutjobs, nutjobs would be a fun study) that would worry me.

It would be nice if finding out the whys for things brought us advancement instead of becoming the tool for a modern witch hunt. That doesn't mean we should be scared of knowledge.

Currently, sociological research is asking the question : why do we ask the questions we ask? So instead of asking: why the gay are gay, the question is : what is sexual orientation? The question "what is homosexuality?" begs its contingent question "what is heterosexuality?". Academia considers that all of sexuality needs explanation not just the parts that have been traditionally considered "deviant". To understand homosexuality, we need to understand heterosexuality.
