Green Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 I don't think there are any short cuts in love. Your family and friends really shouldn't play a part in your decision. If you just picked some women from a picture gallery and flew her over to the US your chances of having that work out would probably be small. She could easily end up leaving you and getting a divorce and you'd be in the same position you are now. I think something along the lines of what carhill suggested. Go on a trip to the country where you like the women and go out, learn the language, make friends and hit on women in that culture. The fact of the matter is I'm going to assume that you don't go out and hit on women in the united states. You need to get out there and try there is no short cut to love.
stillafool Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Any man honestly consider this? I don't want want to get married until at least another 3-4 years, but I'd honestly end up giving this a lot of consideration if I didn't have so many friends and family. I just wouldn't be able to live with the reputation of having to get a mail order bride, it would be worst than the reputation of being alone. I'm a man's man but I don't have the balls to pull something like that off. It's really too bad I wish there wasn't so much of a stigma against it or a lot more guys would do it. Rent the DVD "Mail Order Bride" (the documentary) it is quite interesting. If you do decide you want a MOB, no one has to know where you met your wife. Don't worry about other people who don't pay your bills, make yourself happy and if that's what you want - do it.
tincanman99 Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 If you get a mail order bride you better put an attorney who has gone through the reaming you are going to get on retainer. He/She will be the only one that will be able to save your hide and your assets.
spookie Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 What constitutes a "Mail-order bride" nowadays, anyway? Tons of people meet their spouses online. Is the foreignness the defining characteristic? Being Russian myself, I actually know of a Russian woman who met herAmerican husband online. Yes, she wanted to date an American because she wanted to come to this country, but citizenship wasn't the only requirement. He is kind of a weird guy (no social skills) but they've been married for a couple of years now, and recently had a baby. She was studying to become a doctor and is now doing her residency here. They seem happy, I think it worked out for them.
Green Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 For me I consider it a mail order bride if the man met the woman on a dating site where only he had to pay and she is from a poor country and he pays her way into this country.

stillafool Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Well, yeah, its more than that, more of a general attractiveness issue. Arranged marriage? No such thing as an American. My friends don't care to set me up (I'm assuming they don't know anyone who would date me but honestly they don't really setup anyone), but they will care and never let me live down the fact that I got a mail order bridge. I will hear it non-stop for the rest of my life. Not worth it. And no, they wouldn't buy I met an exchange student. My friends aren't stupid. Can't you tell them you met her online? That's where everyone meets everybody it seems.
tami-chan Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 If you think you'll have better luck with a foreign woman, you should just travel to a foreign country. And if you think height is an issue, then you should go to China. All the women there will think you're tall. Spoken like an ignorant Westerner
IronMaiden Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 I find it ironic that the ad running to the right of this thread is 'russianlovematch.com'. I wouldn't trust a foreigner like this further than I could throw my wallet...

And that is against US law now. If USCIS finds out it was a one way pay site you don't even get approved for the embassy interview. Many things were wrong like the Burmese bride showing up in New York to marry the doorman without him first traveling to Burma with proof of a face to face meeting and continuing relationship within two years of the spousal visa petition. And then her leaving her husband before her status to be adjusted and transferring legal responsibility over on to the filmmaker who became her new petitioner.
