Yesterday it occurred to me that there was an email account that I shared with xMM that I hadn't thought of in a while. Out of curiosity, and concern, I logged in to find it still there. There is quite a lot within the address that I just want to get rid of so, out of safety, the first thing I did was change the password, so that I had complete control of it. I've just tried to close the account completely, now that I have more time, but couldn't find how to do it. My BIG concern is now that in trying I came across IP adresses that had recently logged into the account and there has been activity from an address I have no idea about. It's miles away from where I or, where I thought, xMM live. Does anybody know if there is some technical explanation for this? Also -how do you shut down a Googlemail address? Argh!

BTW: I'd run down the high street naked scattering all the incriminating evidence myself before I get in touch with him to ask if he's used it from there. ;)

I think Google is a little wonky. I know when I had a gmail account, it would always say I was from Cupertino, CA which I definitely was NOT. A friend's gmail account was the same.

This is from gmail:

Canceling your Gmail address

If you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, and you're sure you won't want your username in the future, you can simply remove Gmail from your Google Account. Here's how:

Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page, and open the Accounts and Import tab.

Click Google Account settings.

Click Edit next to My products on the right side.

Click Remove Gmail permanently.

Once you delete your Gmail address, you can't reactivate it, and you won't be able to retrieve any messages

But the service provider would be right, wouldn't it? I really don't know that stuff but the provider is definitely one I have never had. The service provider on my logins is correct but the location, as you say JT, is out. Just this other address I don't understand.

I dunno, sorry. Maybe someone else will.

*shrug* when I use my laptop it uses different IP addys all the time. In fact, if I have a bad connection it offers to change the IP addy for me.. I do not know if that will cause what you are talking about though. I am computer illiterate. :o

I don't get it. Thanks anyway guys. I tried to delete the mail following your guidance JT, but it wouldn't work, so I just deleted everything I could see (without having to painfully open everything up) that related to me and set it back to the way it was.

Due to the nature of gmail being web-based, it's possible to log in to it from anywhere - whether you're at home, at work, at a friend's house, on holiday halfway across the world, etc..

The unusual IP likely just means that he checked that email while away from home somewhere. Unless there had been multiple logins from that IP, it's not worth worrying about too much.

Also, when you deleted all the mails pertaining to you, did you also empty out the trash folder? If you have not, those mails can still be recovered between now and when google automatically clears out the trash items (30 days).

No I didn't, God! I don't wanna have to log in again! Thank you for pointing that out Ana :). I understand what you mean about him being away, but there are multiple logins from that server and address. I know I'm possibly worrying about nothing, but it's the kind of stuff you don't really want broadcasting, y'know? Also, I don't really understand why he's logging in... the whole break up stemmed from him... anyway, that's not my problem; I just need to sever this last tie and it's now driving me mad!
