Hey everyone....I'm a 23 year old guy that just graduated college. There's a girl that I've been talking to who is very attractive, but she's just now about to start college. Is me being 23 and her being 18 too much of an age gap? She seems very mature for most of the 18 year old girls I've seen around around my area. She is out of high school and her graduation is in about 3 weeks. I know her parents well and they really like me.

We're going on our first date this weekend. I'm taking things very slow and just seeing how it goes. I just wanted to get you guys opinions on it!

It seems like a big age different right now but later on in life nobody is going to care about a 5 year gap. Go for it.

I think the entering college/leaving college gap could be an issue so if you are ecpecting to developing something long term I would be careful.

One of my coworkers is 23 and dating an 18 year old, has been with her for more than a year now. Her just entering college doesn't phase them at all. Infact, if anything, it helps in that he can guide her.

Go for it

People change a lot when they go through college -- just be careful.

Normally 5 years isn't much, but at that age it is. I'm 25 now, and a couple years ago I had a couple 18 year old girls that were really after me. I just didn't feel comfortable.

Agreed with Dusty on this part. It's not necessarily the age gap, it's the difference in stages of life. If she's a normal girl, she'll probably be focused on studying and then having a life outside of classes. She probably doesn't really know who she is or what she wants out of life or relationships yet.

I'd bet that it won't last much through her first year, if you guys did start something. I wouldn't say NOT to start it, just be wary of the facts and accepting that it might not be a "forever" type thing because you're just getting out of school while she's just heading in.

I think it would be silly to think it will have any legs in it. Girls just going to college in my experience want something very different when they initially enter college to what they want even a short time after. I don't want to sound patronising. Maybe I am generalising here, but it is a definite trend at my university, a girl leaving her parents, friends, family, all her home comforts and going away properly for the first time is very likely to want some kind of relationship just because of the stability. I'm not saying all girls in this situation are like this. But of the girls who were in relationships in their first year, almost all of them were like this. After they realise that college isn't really as scary as they thought, they get a massive confidence boost, and the problem is, the guy which they saw as comforting, now seems unappealing. Almost like a reminder of their previous insecurities. They also see their friends having fun being single and want to be able to go crazy without worrying about doing something crazy. So yeah, I would be wary. But on the other hand, dating a girl in that situation can be a lot of fun ;)

oh also, as for the age gap, I don't think that is a problem, I dated a girl for who was 18 and that lasted for a couple of years...as the other posters have said, it is more her lack of relationship experience... in a way, you have to put yourself in her shoes, don't overbear her with chat about anything serious, just keep it light, and give her plenty of space.

I don't think it's a horrible age difference but you change alot from 18-25.

If she is mature go for it. My experience, same age gap was that it just didnt work. She wanted to party all the time. I didn't. I tried way more then she did in the relationship. Ultimately I think I wanted to be serious where she was just looking for a fling. meh

18 year old girls can be hot, but they are still very imature. Why don't you play it day by day and if it works out it works out.

Mature for her age? BS. NO 18-year-olds are mature.

i love you for saying that...she trys to act mature but in reality is shes not ha

You're really not all that older than an 18 year old girl...emotionally anyway. :p

I dunno man. Depends on maturity level. Some posters are saying that five years isn't a big age gap later on in life, but now is different. I think this is a far size gap, mostly because of life experience. People change a grow up a huge amount in college. I look back and see how different I was at 20 compared to 18. And that was only two years.

That being said. I'm 23 and dating a 19, almost 20 year old and she's very mature and it doesn't seem too bad, although I tread very carefully and I'm used to dating girls who are a few years old than me.
