For a while, when I first joined kickboxing and crossfit, I always had to prepare myself mentally hours before. The goal is simply: "don't throw up, hope I can keep up". I will load myself with apple an hour before, banana, power bar, anything to ensure that I have enough energy for the class.

Over the time, I gained confidence. Now, I just go and don't think twice.

I am thinking, dreading or scared to go to your own workout is a good thing . It makes me realized that i haven't feel the dread for a while now. Today, I am kind of curious about the Zercher Squat in my crossfit (dread about the bruise but not so much about embarrassing myself).

So maybe, this is a good thing? A way to challenge ourselves to get better?

I think that if a person gets too comfortable with their training, they're not challenging themselves enough. If someone can just show up at the gym with a "whatever" attitude, it's almost like they shouldn't even be training that day. Their intensity will suffer.

I still kind of get butterflies in my stomach when I anticipate squat day and deadlift day. They're always the days that make me feel the most beat down, but they're also the days you feel the best about if you hit PRs.

It seems to me that most anything worth doing should have some level of pre-anxiety associated with it. The greater the challenge overcome, the greater the reward.

I wished I have a goal (like joining triathlon or something) but like you, I like something intense and short (sprint, weight, flexibility) instead of something of more steady state.

I guess I can aim to compete for crossfit sectional in 2 years but I don't know, there are so many ex athletes competing in crossfit, I just don't think I will be up to par regardless how hard I train.

Like how can I beat someone in muscle ups if she used to be a gymnast in college :p, it seems impossible.

Another thing is that I am thinking to go hard with Muay Thai KB. My coworker is 41 and she's competing in amateur kickboxing, it seems that I can do it too if I train really hard. I am thinking to do crossfit for 3 more months and then switch full time to Kickboxing and Capoeira (and also Krav for self defense).

Sometimes I find myself trying to talk myself out of a workout but once I get started, it's hard for me to stop.

I always dread working out but I've never regretted it ever. When I'm there, I put myself in the moment and I push on. That keeps me going. That said I am scared about starting my Muay Thai. I begin on the 1st of May. Everyone seems so fit and I can't say STOP in thai (the trainers are all world or at the very least national level champions!)

So, I'll get back to you about dreading a work out. HAHA

If I want to work out, it's gotta be before work so sometimes i'm dragging ass in the morning.

However EVERYONE I know knows i'm trying to work out & loose weight & they all give me crap if I start slacking.

I got this female friend & she's the worst.

She'll call me up & ask me what I did that day & she'll be like "I didn't hear you say anything about working out"

Total ball-buster.

gives me crap all the time.

I'm almost afraid to not work out now just so I don't have to hear it. LOL!

Whatever keeps me motivated.

If your MT coach is as scary as mine, I think you will dread it (but you will keep coming back). Talking about a masochist, I'm exactly that.

You will get bruises too, but sometimes I find bruises to be motivating. I look at my body now so I have 2 bruises (shoulder & thigh from kickboxing), callused hands (from pull-ups & deadlift), and callused feet (from capoeira).

But this is not the reason I dread though, the reason is because I saw some people threw up in crossfit & Muay Thai before and I don't want to become like that (or quit mid way). Of course, I dread that I would pass out in the middle of the workout. In the KB, we were pushed so hard like yesterday, I was screaming when I did the last drill of the day (burnouts and knees). They always said "is that what you got? I don't feel anything" so they are like egging on you even though you already feel like passing out LOL.

That's what I did to one of my girlfriend and to Rorschach here (LOL). I have success stories too, one of my coworker lost 45 lbs! She said that's because of me (because we used to workout after work before I head for my crossfit or martial arts) and whenever she wanted to quit, I pushed her lol (in a nice way though).

I have 2 more (my kickboxing partners). I have too many going on but I'm hoping the weight training that we will do together 2 times a week will transform them.

I feel out of place now. It took me awhile but now I LOVE going to the gym. Honestly I've been sick with a cold for like 3 weeks now because I won't let my body rest and recuperate (and that 2 hours of clamming in the ocean in a swimming suit didn't help(I live in maine where the water is FRIGID year round)).

I've been to the gym for 90+ minute workouts for 7 days in a row, I don't plan on getting a days rest at all. I want to see how many days I can go without taking a day off, I'm trying for a month!

After exercising everyday or twice a day for the past 6 months, workouts have become a habit. Nonetheless, after I sprained my ankle 2 weeks ago, I've been skipping my crossfit & martial arts (kickboxing, km, and capoeira).

Today was supposed the day I decided to come back. I already packed my gym bag then I got scared :p and decided to stay home (duh!). Then I felt really guilty, so I decided to do 100 push up challenge at home (full push ups and I passed the week 3 day 1 column 3 task from hundredpushups.com), did burpee again (80 of them), 200 squats, 15 pull ups, and 120 sit ups. Then I did 15 min abs...all those drills from KB.

I feel good again, I feel more confident and look forward for my crossfit tomorrow. I think I'm ready and pumped ;).

PS: Rorschach, did you sign up for livestrong? Why don't u join the 100 push up dare and do it together with me? here is the link:

http://www.livestrong.com/dare/355-100-push-ups-before-2009/

This is a really great program. I'm at week 3 day 1 column 3. Look forward to see you there! (my username is lindahwa btw).

Cuppa,

That's awesome! Good to see that you're recovering and almost back in action. What's the 100 push up challenge...? I once did 125 pushups in one sitting at the Marine Corps Expo last year and won a CamelBak water bottle...I was only halfway to winning one of their fullsized backpacks!

And I still need to respond to the PM...sorry about that...:o

wow...that's awesome. So this is a piece of cake for you then ha!

hundredpushup challenge is 100 consecutive push ups in one set (no rest). The prescribed push up is the good from one (feet together, abs tight, chest to the ground, etc). So yeah, I started doing full push ups last week. I found that I could do 25 consecutive push ups (which was a surprise even to me). So I decided to join the program and I'm on week 3 now, according to the chart, if I dedicate 10 - 15 mins a day or every other day, I will be able to hit 100 consecutive push ups in one seating (maybe I join a competition too and win a coffee mug or something :p).

No worries about PM, got one from t-man, he said he did his 100 burpees :bunny: a few days ago :).

Ok, I did something similar to that in preparation for Marine Corps OCS a few years back...

Basically, I did three sets of pushups every morning (usually resting on the weekends)...first set you do immediately after you get out of bed...second set you do after you do your morning hygiene routine...and final set you do during or after breakfast...the first week, you start with a number that you can comfortably perform 3 sets of...and each week, you increase your reps per set by 5...with body weight exercises like these, it's all about volume and getting those reps in to increase your max reps...

Eventually I was doing three sets of 100 every morning...but that was when I was peaking with that program...it's been a while since I've done that many...nowadays I keep it around 50 reps/set...and I've gotten lazy and only do maybe one or two sets per morning...maybe 2 or 3 mornings per week...:o

But I would really like to get back to that level...maybe I'll start next week...heheh...

check this one out then: http://www.hundredpushups.com

Start with initial test (how many consecutive push ups you can do) then follow the program? I know many in livestrong has reached 100 and they restart again doing it with weight (or do clapping push ups or something more challenging).

I am scared to post in this thread or forum (I sure hope 100 push ups and workout thread are On topic) so if you are interested to track the progress, then we can do it in the other website (or we can pm). I found that my abs were burning from the push ups and my hamstring is somewhat cooked, never thought that a good form push up burn everything from shoulder to toe.

According to this, if I ace the workout everyday, in 3.5 week, I will be ready to try my 100 consecutive push-ups ;). To be safe, I give myself 8 weeks :).

I have a livestrong account but I forgot the username/password. I'll have to spend some time this morning trying to remember it, or maybe I'll just have to make a new account
