I'm a fourth generation Japanese-American, born and raised in CA. I can relate to the whole "I'm not really Asian" statement, and I'd say 99% of my friends are Caucasian, but this is only because I grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood/school -- not because of any self-hatred. I work in an industry with few minorities. But I will say in college when I was wearing "alternative" clothing from thrift stores and studded belts, I got weird looks from the other "pretty and proper" Asian girls. I looked far from the stereotype. HOWEVER, when I worked at a bookstore, one of my guy coworkers asked me, "So...is it true Asian women don't have hair down there?" Seriously, who comes up with these things?? That's understandable that you drew up in a predominantly white neighborhood. I do have a mix of white and Asian friends having lived and schooled around both. My half Asian-half white friend hangs around mostly Asians but does not want to date Asian girls. What I was referring to was that they don't want anything to do with Asians. It's not they're aren't any around. It's always that group and the Asian girl does stand out. Other Asian girls around see her, and she has this proud look on her face. It may be a preference of what friends to have but preference based on race? I don't know about that. Anyway, I am in no position to make a fair judgement.

Kitten_Moon Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 I actually meant that it's cool for Asian girls to date white guys in college...not necessarily the other way around...I often saw a large group of Asian girls and the one girl who had a white boyfriend...the token white guy in the group (there's ALWAYS ONE... )...and this Asian girl carries him around like a trophy in front of her other Asian friends...like she was better than them because she could "bag a white guy"...and they were both usually rather unfortunate looking...Interesting. I live in Texas, and there's a large Vietnamese and Filipino population. I don't know about Asians in California or New York, but the ones here stick with other Asians.

I know some pretty aggressive Asian men, and some Caucasian men that wouldn't be able to hang with the girls I hang with. I can't say I'd really want to be nice to THAT guy the OP is posting about either. There are people who like to stick to their race because it's easier for them and there are some of us who can get out there, and make friends regardless.

I left another relationship forum because their responses to a similar post there were pretty redneck and immature. And when I saw someone post something positive about asians amidst this pattern of hate, I noticed soon after he edited it to fit in with the others. Sheep. This forum is better. People have different opinions yes- redneck, not redneck whatever- but at least they stick to their guns without bowing down to group mentality.

He can be quite charming and is beyond loaded but very ugly looking. I mean, not even 'cute ugly'. Looking at them together it was clear that he had bought her. She on the other hand genuinely seemed to have wanted love from this 'arrangement'. The other person, once again, not even remotely attractive but a really nice person. He and his Wife have been married for about 12 years and have two of THE most adorable children EVER. You can see that its genuine between them. OP, I think the guy you met up with is a dick. Cant change that.. only he can. But in seeing such couples on the street and observing the two that I know personally.. I think some white men gravitate towards Asian women because they are either pompous and want to buy a woman from a poor family or are too ugly (inside or out) to do well on the dating scene. I've seen more of asian guys dating other race now, more than before. What bugs me about some asian girls are the ones who claim that they only want to date white guys. I find it pretty shallow and pretentious (no offense, it's just my personal opinion). I have to admit that here in the west coast, asian girls are pretty desirable. I went clubbing last Friday with my asian girlfriend, we just went directly to the VIP line and never paid for any cover charge. While I was on a business trip in Sydney, I went clubbing with my coworkers (2 white males, 2 cantonese aussie, and myself). I was treated quite rude and some guys think that my white male cowokers were pimps and we (with 2 other girls) were prostitutes. I went to Waldorf with another female coworker and one british guy. It's the same thing, because in the airport we got picked up by corporate limo, people thought we are a high class mail order bride (even though we were in business suits!) It's sad to be stereotyped but I don't feel that way here in the west coast (hence to me, it's the best place to live). I can go clubbing , I can dress sexy, I can do whatever I want and people will not think of stupid stereotype, submissive mail order craps like in some other countries.

I think it's not fair to say all asian men tend to be more of chauvinists (like some asian cultures that put less equality between men and women). It still comes down to individual right? These days, there are so many american born asian males, 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation of American Asians. It's safe to say that how they treat women is probably not because the culture they were brought up but more of reflection of their characters. Douchiness/Douchebags come from any colors right? I don't think asian men have that reserved lol.

But I also know many asian women who are not so smart, have no concept of loyalty, and don't know how to treat men (or women). It sucks to be judged by your race and people don't try to look at the personalities behind that skin color. Not all asian women are the same, it still comes down to her character and personality.

Because it is IMPOSSIBLE to be a anywhere without bumping on someone of Chinese descent-the Chinese are everywhere ( like the East Indians), it can't be helped , there are just too many of them on this Earth. I guess, you can argue that you are not really "Chinese" since I read somewhere that you are of Malaysian descent . Besides if you are a Hokie, how can you not meet Asians? But I think I understand your self-loathing. And hey, if you think you have to purge every drop of Asian blood you have, go for it! It must be difficult to be a white man trapped in an Asian bod.

Culturally, they probably have more in common with women from Middle Eastern backgrounds, although Middle Eastern women are even more conservative than their Asian counterpart. Physically, they tend to have more petite frames although women from some parts of Asia are built like Amazons. Ultimately, a woman's personality is what distinguishes her from other women. Guys stay with the women because of the personality traits he appreciates and respects - if Asian women tend to have personality traits that a guy appreciates, he'll go for Asian women.
