sumdude Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Where did you meet your current or past boyfriends/SO's? How old were you both at the time? I'm curious about this. At 42 going out to clubs etc isn't really my deal anymore. Internet dating is very spotty and more work (for a guy) than it's usually worth..or so it seems.
Crazy Magnet Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I'm 30. I haven't met anyone in a club or bar since I graduated from college, and even then I didn't date them. current BF I met on eHarmony The one before that I met him through a friend (played in a sports league together) The one before that....through a friend The one before that (exH) we knew each other growing up My main method has been through friends or get togethers/BBQs/etc at a friend's house.
threebyfate Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Including my husband, the last four relationships were met in the following order: Neighbor of a friend. My neighbor.Work acquaintance who found a way to get into my social network.Friend of a friend.
jthorne Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Met mine through a friend I met at the gym. He's the friend's big brother. I'm 38. He's 33.
CarrieT Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Sam, I am in the same boat. So much harder to meet people when you hit your 40s. I hate bars and clubs and it seems that at the gym, all the guys are only looking at the 20-something hardbodies. I have been going to some meetup.com groups but that has been mostly unsuccessful and dating sites were the WORST. I am at a loss...
Stung Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Over the years I met most of my SO's through continuing education, through friends and friends-of-friends, at events like art shows, etc. rather than the club scene. I met my husband on OkCupid when I was 30 and he was 35.
Romance Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 online. it was a total accident and we thought online dating was for weirdos and people who were ugly. (haahaha, alright yeah we were being judgmental and conceited!) But it happened and he was 21 and I was 17.
Eeyore79 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I met my two most recent exes via online dating. The one before that was a work colleague, then before that I dated a guy from my salsa class and a guy I met in the local pub. My friend met her boyfriend at amateur dramatics, and my other friend met hers at the gym. I guess the moral of the story is, get out and join classes or activities if you want to meet like minded people!
USMCHokie Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I'm noticing a trend here...and something I strongly advocate all the time on LS...social networking!!! Meeting friends of friends of friends...it really is the best way to find single folks to date...regardless of age...
Rorschach Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 As a guy with all of one person in his social network. I'm so screwed Ah well, i try to avoid it, but I stands all I can stands and I can't stands no more. *gets on facebook*
MarieMarie Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I met my boyfriend on eHarmony. He's 34 and I'm 29.
georgia girl Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Blind date set up by friends... I avoided doing this for six full months before I agreed to meet him. Thankfully, in desperation (needed a date for a wedding), I gave in. We're getting married this fall. Trust your friends. They know you, they know the "fixup," and they know when you'll just mesh. Tell them you want to meet someone and then AGREE to do it when they tell you about someone. I'm ashamed to say that I said at least 10 times that, "he just doesn't sound like my type." Oops. Good luck!
