lsmitty66 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 So this is a long story...My boyfriend and I live in San Jose. I was born and raised here. He was born and raised in Wisconsin. He has applied for a job in Wisconsin and is getting further and further in the interview process. As he progresses through the interview process, I get nervous. I'm not nervous because I am completely turned off to moving, but because it will be the first time I have moved so far from my family. Also I have a teaching job here. He has told me that there will be a bigger commitment on his part if this comes to fruition so I am not concerned about that. I am just concerned about not finding a job, and being so far from my family. Is this normal?? Any advice from others who have done this??
Kentucky Jelly Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Very normal concerns. Tell your boyfriend your concerns, make sure he understands he may have to support you for a while until you find some work. You may have to substitute teach for a while in your local area until something pops up. He can help you by putting you in touch with any of his friends or family in the area who already work in education. They can tell you what to expect as far as jobs and pay are concerned. You can start looking at job postings now just so you have a feel for what to expect. I suggest getting lots of minutes on your phone so you can call your friends and family often. I have made my best friends through my hobbies. So whatever you do for fun, make sure you are doing it as soon as your feet hit the ground in Wisconsin. Get involved in groups and organizations of like minded people it will help you to make friends faster, but don't expect it to happen overnight. True friendships take years to develop, at least that's the way it works for me. If you do this be sure to look at it as an adventure. Find the good in your new home and don't dwell on the bad. Be open to new experiences, search them out with an open mind. I have traveled all over the US and I believe there is good to be found everywhere sometimes you just have to dig a little harder to find it.
