Just trying to get a general feel, here. I need to get new cologne but there are simply so many choices. I used to wear Ralph Lauren (Romance) long ago, and in recent years it was always some Lacoste stuff but I wasn't crazy about it. Any recommendations would be great.

Get the cologne that smells the best on you. Colognes work differently with different body chemistries. You should wear what makes you feel the best and most confident. Women will notice a good scent more on a confident looking guy than an awkward or uncomfortable looking guy. You even said that you weren't that crazy about the Lacoste stuff you've been wearing. No wonder it wouldn't work well for you...

Go to a department store or one of those fragrance shops and try everything. Bring a female friend along if possible, or ask for a female's assistance from behind the counter. To be honest, asking for anonymous recommendations really isn't going to be much help...

I'm currently wearing YSL Pour Homme.

I like natural smells--not like disgusting, haven't-showered-in-three-days body odor, but a man's "natural" sent. I also like "clean" smells, like soap. :p

That being said, I am fond of Tommy Boy--extremely fond. My ex (girlfriend, but she was fairly butch) use to wear it and OMG...

The only problem is that it tends to wear off quickly, but most fragrances do. It just smells so...hot. :D

All this is true.

Yup.

A cologne that smells good on one guy isn't necessarily going to smell good on you, and what you smell on those little sample papers isn't what you're going to smell when you actually wear it.

Go to a department store and try some out. And give it a little time before you decide what you think of a fragrance since it takes a while for the middle and base notes to come out.

Yes, you need to take a female friend with you and go to a department store and actually squirt stuff on you. Then walk around for about 30 minutes to let the scents mix with your body chemistry and have her sniff you all over and pick one.

Allure Sport by Chanel................not a day goes by where I don't get complemented by somebody, plus it's not very common (nothing worse than having a girl tell you that you smell liker her X)
