probably going to happen soon, maybe trial separation (or longer);worried about the difficlties of how the kids (mainly one kid this case) will take it. How do I deal with that?

Expect them not to understand but be supportive and know it will be better after this period?

How much time might I expect to have with them?

My opinion, based on my sister's divorce:

The younger they are, the easier for them to adapt to the new situation. In my sister's case, the older guy, (6 years old at the time) had and still has a very hard time with it. He has some anger and behavior problems that the counselor believes is due to the divorce. The little (1.5 at the time) adapted pretty well, and she's a happy-go-lucky girl. Granted this could also be due to their personalities?

She and her ex have 50/50 custody of the kids. I don't know your situation or story, so I don't know what you would end up getting. Talk to a lawyer before making any decisions to make it more likely that you will get the custody deal you want.
