Ilovehim Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 A few of the things I heard the most for a relationship to work were: -your partner has to be your best friend -both people should be "complete" and have fulfilling separate lives as well as a happy/honest/fulfilling life together... What do you guys believe is essential to make a relationship work?
SuperMatt Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Communication, which goes with honesty, is my biggest thing that I look for in a relationship. Now of course in the beginning its about getting to know each other and having a social and sexual connection. But In the LONG run, communication and honesty is key!
cooldudeinberlin Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I am going out on a limb here... but your SO/partner is NOT your best friend... they are your lover.... which goes deeper than a best friend... nor should they try and be your best friend. a relationship works if: a mutual attractionmutual respectmutual admirationkeeping a realistic view and not high expectationsgood, open and honest communication (which rules out about 70% of people)being relaxed and comfortable around each other, but not so relaxed you begin letting yourself goarguing fairlyaffection and good sex (sorry, one of the most important matters)similar goalssimilar interest - but important to have separate interest/hobbies/friendsknowing how to listenknowing how to compromiseknowing how to ignore the insignificant little things the other may be blowing up into a huge to do and being able to calmly support them with little commentaryhumor-laughter and a similar sense of humorgood sex... did i say that already?
