For those who don't know my story, my ex is dating a former friend of mine, who flirted with her when I was with her. I haven't spoken to her in months but have randomly seen her around a few times and avoided her. I don't want to talk to her or him. Thing is, parties keep coming up and does it have to be an automatic thought whether my ex is going or not? I've skipped 3 or so parties because my ex, and I assume her boyfriend was going. There will be more...should I keep skipping them? Or, should I break the pattern and just go? I told my friend that I wouldn't go and he just gave me this look and said I shouldn't avoid these events just because they're going. I have also been told that there's possibly a lot of downsides to it and little upsides, which I agree to an extent. Now, if I do go, I have pictured some scenarios. 1. That jerk sits with me and my group of friends. In which case, I'll try to keep conversations short. He tries to push it and become too friendly, then I'm moving. 2. They break up a while before. He tries to be my friend again, in which case I refuse. 3. I bump into the both of them together. Awkward. 4. I bump into my ex. Conversation short and "hey, is that ___ over there?", and move over to talk to that person. 5. I bring a hot chick as a date (hotter than my ex). 6. I have a wingman I can go to as an escape clause. 7. They break up recently. He tries to gain comfort from my group of friends. Screw him. 8. I completely snap and start screaming out "why?!" (not going to happen). I'm sure there's more but that's all I can entertain myself with now. Anyways, I love to meet people at parties and there's always potential dates that can be met! What do you guys think?
