cuppa Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 A 2x bodyweight deadlift is real good, I think. That would make you miles ahead of most people on the planet. However, depending on your goals, the sky is the limit. I saw a video a little bit ago of a woman deadlifting 600 lbs. That's more than most guys can do, to be sure. Just remember you have to deadlift 150 before you can deadlift 160. Those are, of course, arbitrary numbers, but as long as you shoot for making small PRs in the gym (with good form) every time you go in, you'll be making forward progress. Also keep in mind a PR does not necessarily mean more weight on the bar. For example, if you got 5 good reps on 135lb deadlifts last week, and this week you got 8 good reps on the same weight, you're making progress. If you're getting 12 or more reps, increase the weight a few lbs. Today, I just finished my first 5-3-1 for my military press/shoulder press. I got a new one rep max (well I actually could hit two but when I added extra 5#, I couldn't do it ). So my new PR is 53# now, up from 48#. For my bodyweight, I think this is quite respectable so I will start using 53 for my next 5-3-1. Thursday is the deadlift day so I might hit a new max (fingers crossed).
FeelingLonely98 Posted May 4, 2010 Posted May 4, 2010 marsle - Were your LS pics taken at your current weight or previous "lighter" weight. Because in the pics you look incredible. You have NOTHING to worry about. I'm sure either way you have little to worry about. If you want to lose weight do it for you, because it would make YOU feel better about marsle.
Romance Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I am in the same boat as you! The gym is 25 mins away and it's like 'ughhh, i wanna go but this drive sucks!' and I am fine with eating healthy meals but around 9 pm..I want chocolate so bad, that throws me off my game.
FitChick Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 OP reminds me of a neighbor. She has a gorgeous face and neck but she weighs 300 lbs. No fat cells exist above her shoulders! Weight loss is more about diet than exercise (you can't outrun a donut) but exercise is key to keeping the weight off once it's gone. Losing the weight is easier than keeping it off because we all tend to slack off and go back to our old habits. I am always gaining and losing five pounds. If I have a goal, like a vacation trip, then I can be very disciplined. I count calories but I still allow myself treats because I cannot deprive myself. I've found that if I eat half an ounce to an ounce of 72% dark chocolate, I don't crave any more and it's quite filling. Milk chocolate has more sugar so sets off more sugar cravings and it's hard to stop.

stellaluna Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 (edited) If you're okay with posting your pics on the net- I hope you are okay with hearing an honest opinion. First of all, I think you are seeking attention. Do I think you are attractive? Yes. But you are a little on the chubby side. I love slim girls. I'd see you around and probably notice you and then think, she needs to shed those extra pounds. I hope you do shed those extra pounds and that my words help you to get to your goal. Cheers. EricaH329 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Wow, I don't mean to get stuck on this one aspect, but you are 5'5 and 180lbs? Is that the weight you are in your pictures? If so... you carry that weight very well!!!

mem11363 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 D-Lish, I am just wondering. Lets say some 23 year old guy came on here and posted that he had a genius IQ. And he proceeded to say that if he simply had enough discipline to study hard, do his homework etc. he would have a degree from Wharton and a big time trading job on Wall Street. Wouldn't he get hammered for being just one more guy who is a Wannabe? I Wannabe rich, smart enough to be rich, just not disciplined and hardworking enough. But I'm working on it. How is this post different? I know, I thought the same thing E.

How is this post different? I'm having trouble seeing how that's an issue... Everybody on here has certain things that work well in their lives, and certain things they would like to change. Who's to judge who already has life good enough that a request for help is "attention seeking" and unworthy of response? It's all relative - take somebody from a part of the world where you don't get to go to sleep with a full belly each night, and you aren't sure if you are safe in the streets during the day, and show them any of a number of posts like "I love my spouse and my kids, but I'm only getting sex once a week, and I feel bad about that" and see what kind of reaction you get. Boy, talk about attention seeking! This whole place is self-indulgent; that's it's nature. Contribute if you have something to contribute; move on to another thread if one bugs you...

Both Erica and I were pointing out that she doesn't look like she's 180lbs in her pictures, and if she is, she looks good!!
Star Gazer Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 ?? I don't understand what your panties are in a bunch about. Both Erica and I were pointing out that she doesn't look like she's 180lbs in her pictures, and if she is, she looks good!! My math may be wrong, but she said she's 25 pounds overweight and her ideal weight is 140... so I'm thinking 165? In either case, you're right that she looks GREAT!! Many people carry their weight differently. I know most people are reeeeeeeally surprised when I tell them how much I weigh.

BubbleFreak Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 This whole place is self-indulgent; that's it's nature. Contribute if you have something to contribute; move on to another thread if one bugs you... Exactly! I actually find it conceited when people say a thread is worthless. Might be to them, but not to the OP. Unless the OP is an obvious troll.
Author marsle85 Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 marsle - Were your LS pics taken at your current weight or previous "lighter" weight. Because in the pics you look incredible. You have NOTHING to worry about. I'm sure either way you have little to worry about. If you want to lose weight do it for you, because it would make YOU feel better about marsle. The photos were taken recently. There is a possible 5-10 lb weight differential among them. Thank you for the support. I am at that point- where I literally feel less HAPPY with myself. I know some posters view that as conceited or attention-seeking, but I am a very confident and typically happy person. The repercussions of my weight are effecting my physical and mental health. I am in the same boat as you! The gym is 25 mins away and it's like 'ughhh, i wanna go but this drive sucks!' and I am fine with eating healthy meals but around 9 pm..I want chocolate so bad, that throws me off my game. Exactly! I can calorie-count every hour of every day, but when the night comes, I relax and suddenly late night snacking throws me off. My plan is to disallow ANY eating after a certain time. Has that been successful for anyone else with this problem? Ummm...marsle is a hottie... Thank you. You are incredibly fit, where does your motivation to work out come from? It's clear that it's important to you, and i'm envious of your diligence. If you're okay with posting your pics on the net- I hope you are okay with hearing an honest opinion. First of all, I think you are seeking attention and that isn't attractive. Do I think you are attractive? Yes, you are okay. But you are a little on the chubby side, and for me that would be a huge turn off. I love slim girls that take care of themselves. I'd see you around and probably notice you and then think what a shame, she needs to shed those extra pounds. I hope you do shed those extra pounds and that my words, as cruel as they may sound initially helps you to get to your goal. Cheers. Of course I appreciate an honest opinion, I was very candid with the information I provided- and am looking for just as truthful advice. Firstly, it's hard to be that honest and ask for genuine advice without looking like you're "hungry" for attention (ha ha ha). I assure you, these posts aren't typical of me, but regardless: I need all the help I can get. I am chubby. Which is more infuriating than anything, because over a year ago- I was the most fit i've ever been in my life...and 40 lbs lighter. Thanks for the comment. Wow, I don't mean to get stuck on this one aspect, but you are 5'5 and 180lbs? Is that the weight you are in your pictures? If so... you carry that weight very well!!! Erica, D-Lish: I am very lucky... I do carry the weight pretty well. A lot of it is distributed to my breasts and rear, so I look more curvy than overweight... but I still have a little tummy and would KILL to drop it. I do love my body, and I am confident as I am but I know I am wasting time... I could be perfectly healthy and a LOT sexier. I think as girls, you can BOTH understand that. she's beyond "OK" You're really hot, Marsle. If it bother you much, just tone up a bit by exercising.. do you like to go biking? Don't feel like you're fat, because you aren't from what I saw.. Just exercise a little and eat healthy and you have nothing to worry about. May I print your picture? lol....just a little inside joke:rolleyes::laugh: Bahaha, I just cracked up. I do like to go biking, and it's an interesting alternative to going to the gym (considering mine is 20 minutes away!) But even more than that, I LOVE a long swim. I could swim for an hour and feel absolutely great after...maybe a little tired. It is not rigorous in the way running is. Actually, question: if i'm looking to lose weight, is panting the way to go? Would running be more effective than swimming? Print me? Isn't it a little late to be asking? Exactly! I actually find it conceited when people say a thread is worthless. Might be to them, but not to the OP. Unless the OP is an obvious troll. Noo way, girly! haha, i'm here for the long haul. ?? I don't understand what your panties are in a bunch about. Both Erica and I were pointing out that she doesn't look like she's 180lbs in her pictures, and if she is, she looks good!! I think this is an error on Mem's part. I believe he intended to quote Stellaluna's post which referred to me as attention-seeking. He defended my honor (thank you!) saying my request for advice/validation is just as meaningful as someone inquiring about schooling/higher learning and then being called a "wannabe" and "attention-seeker" .
SarahRose Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Sweetie you are beautiful and not chubby at all. That guy was just giving you a neg hit to get you to reply to him so he could get attention from you and the other posters.
D-Lish Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 My math may be wrong, but she said she's 25 pounds overweight and her ideal weight is 140... so I'm thinking 165? In either case, you're right that she looks GREAT!! Many people carry their weight differently. I know most people are reeeeeeeally surprised when I tell them how much I weigh. Only because she said she was back at 180lbs: About a year passed... I was 165. I maintained that for a while and now - as a junior in college... I'm BACK AT 180! She doesn't look 180lbs in the photos, I never would have guessed!
Citizen Erased Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Marsle, you are gorgeous there is no mistake. You hold your weight VERY well. Best solution for snacking is: don't buy anything to snack on. That's really the first step, hard to deny things for yourself if you have them at hand. Every time you even think about buying it, identify something that snacking will negatively impact. For me it was an outfit I wanted to fit into, some health problems I have and now it's feeling as sexually confident as I am, retaining that is important to me, food isn't worth that. Usually helps to walk away from it.
USMCHokie Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 (edited) Thank you. You are incredibly fit, where does your motivation to work out come from? It's clear that it's important to you, and i'm envious of your diligence. Thanks! I appreciate that! Well, the positive feedback from the ladies certainly doesn't hurt the motivation... But seriously though, after doing the military school thing and having a best friend in college that was as motivated as I to get into shape, that "spirit" (for lack of a better term) was kind of permanently instilled in me...and coming from being a scrawny and wee lil' chinaman back in high school, it's something I'm really proud of and would never let go of...and something I really value and appreciate...so I plan on staying this way until I kick the bucket... Having read your prior posts, I know that you've been back and forth over the years and have had periods where you were in great shape only to gain back some of the weight...the way you should look at it is to be proud of what you achieve and not let yourself "give back" all that hard work you put in...that's kind of what keeps me going...
