Do you consider an SO:

  1. An extension of yourself, to be pulled out when convenient and solely there to meet your wants and needs? or
  2. Do you consider them a person, with wants and needs of their own?

I'll start this off.

I agree with #2.

I'll say 2...but I don't know if this requires much thought or discussion...only a douche would pick 1, wouldn't you think...?

Based on some of the posts on LS, I'm just curious who's willing to be honest. :)

I need someone that will challenge me, and meet my basic needs- but put me in my place if I expect too much. But- #2 for sure- I want someone with wants and needs of their own - and I want someone that isn't afraid to tell me what they need from me.

2...SO should be a partner in crime, with a will and life of their own, but sharing some of my dreams and delights.

Very much agreed. A partner should be someone that can enrich my life with a life of her own...and it's the merger of two separate lives that creates an even more fulfilling "single" life together...well, ideally... :o
