JamesM Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) Is this Room Salon in Korea or some other country? Read the info at this link. It may be of more help. http://asktheexpat.blogspot.com/2009/08/room-salons-in-south-korea-whos-going.html A room salon is NOT a massage parlor. Edited April 7, 2010 by JamesM
Author patticakes Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 this so called room salon is in the Chicago area. it advertises as a karaoke bar so i knew it wasn't a massage parlor right off the bat.....
JamesM Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Doing a google search on Chicago, I find no reviewer even hinting at improprieties at any Korean karaoke establishment. By no means would I name the place if I were you. I think the main thing underlying this question is...the lack of trust you have in your husband. You must assume that he is up to something out of a mistrust of his evenings out. While I can say that I usually believe the worst of men who visit establishments without their wives, I can find no evidence yet that suggests such is occurring here. It may be, but it is not a known issue. As long as you are positive this is a Korean room salon with Karaoke (and not simply a lie covering up a visit to a more notorious strip club around Chicago), then if he stayed there and didn't go elsewhere (which is another possibility), then he may be actually telling the truth.
2sunny Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 the mere fact that women aren't allowed says it all. dress as a man and find out what really happens there. ask hubby to tag along since he's quite the singer! i'd love to see his face when posed with this offer.

nddb Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I'd be circumspect before jumping to conclusion. Ask around first. There are a lot of cheesy Asian massage parlors but there are also high-end business tea houses. Some Asian clients prefer them to golf courses (where membership fees can run into the six figures and a round of golf is a few hundred bucks). I've been to $700 dinner for four (business expenses) and capped off with a few liquor bottles at $200/per. And this client came to the US to visit once every 10 years. My boss and I went to entertain two of their big wigs. This was years ago. This was in Hawaii, where we flew to meet them in a tea house off Waikiki. But the women were traditional, and more about wine pouring, playing traditional music, serving dinner, laughing at jokes, and generally stayed out of the way when business discussions open. Think of it as the Playboy club in the 70's except the women wear traditional clothing and completely covered (multiple layers of silk dress). What was paid for was the atmosphere, the pampering (food/drinks/compliments), the incredibly expensive and potent liquor, the musical skills, the discretion (they never repeat what they heard) and the social environment that facilitates business dealings--their way. And the art work and vases decorating the room. One of the girls turned out to be a graduate student at U of H. For an evening of music playing and pouring tea and serving food, she pockets a few hundred dollars. We never saw so much as her calves or arms--she was completely garbed from the neck down in what is no doubt a very expensive traditional silk dress and silk shoes. She was there to ply us with the every expensive liquor and did a good job of it. The bill was ridiculous by my standard but my boss didn't bat an eye. It was over a grand, easy. There was a haole girl but she was the receptionist and she was the only one wearing a sleeveless gown, the most revealing dress if you can call it that. We never saw her again after we passed the door. And no women customers.

nddb Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 did you get defensive and angry when your wife asked about the evening there? did you threaten to divorce her when she asked you? No, I told my wife before we left that the account was critical and we'd be doing this. This was how the client does business. I called her in the middle of the evening just to let her know what we were doing and laughed over my cluelessness about certain cultural issues. She (being asian background) gave me some advice and some pointers. And I flew home the next day, sleeping like a baby on the flight from exhaustion. But my wife also didn't question me much about it. She knew I hated wasting those few days when I had a lot on my plate at work and I'd been working a lot. She was completely supportive and gave me a nice welcome home after a long weary flight. Other wives may have taken it as a husband taking off to Hawaii and cavorting with young women spending over a grand. My wife took it as a weary business trip and tense discussions to fend off requests for further discounts and more stringent deadlines to keep a paying client. Which was about what it was. She saw my exhaustive preparation before the meeting, appreciated my effort (which I'm happy to report resulted in the client dropping the request for fee reduction and most of the other changes). If she pestered me about it and started going postal over nothing...yeah, I can see being pushed to snap.
Author patticakes Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 business trips are one thing...this was an evening for misbehaving. There was no big deal to close on or a big client to impress...just 3 men going out for some female company and who knows what else....your wifr being asian, I am sure she knows of these room salons. Here in Chicago of course you are not going to find them advetising as such...hello...prostitution is illeagal here. you just need to know what to look for. These are private rooms that you and your girl go into and ??? this one poses as a karaoke cafe...try to go in with a female date and they tell you no! if it were not so expensive I would hire someone to go check it out for me but it is way out of my price range. Thay advertise in the korean ad papers as having the most beautiful girls to choose from, asian , russian, polish..you name it. Now my hubby doesn't even bring those papers home anymore..why? too afraid of what I might find out?
Author patticakes Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 oh one more thing..he didn't answer his phone when I called him....he didn't hear it he says...BULL****
nddb Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 your wifr being asian, I am sure she knows of these room salons. My wife actually has no clues as she has never been in one. If the women I saw in that club were representative--they weren't that hot. My wife didn't have much cause for concern and I did tell her that too.
You Go Girl Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 It sounds like nddb went to something entirely different--a traditional geisha house. patti--why can't you say part of the name? I could tell you very quickly I think...I know a lot about Chicago and can ask around.
Author patticakes Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 This place is located in Niles IL, a suburb of Chicago....it is a korean karaoke bar...last part of the name is Cabana...
JamesM Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 A google search doesn't bring up any establishment that is suspicious.
nddb Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 I only found this. Doesn't sound to be the place. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/111400
Author patticakes Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 that is the place, but that ad is old....trust me...this is not a place for you to take your wife. we used to eat at this place when it was a korean restaurant, it has since changed its venue. my husband told me that you go in and the boss brings you girls and takes you to your own private room. crwon royal he says starts at $400.00 a bottle, is crown royal THAT good or are you really paying for something extra? I drive by the place everyday, you would think it was just what the sign says..Korean Karaoke Cafe, it is not such a place. one review on this place even out and out called it a "hore house" as he put it.http://www.superpages.com/bp/Niles-IL/Niles-Cabana-L0133034058.htm as you will see here

Author patticakes Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 would just love to hear from anybody who has actually visited this place or one just like it to get a better idea of what really goes on in there.
nddb Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 there should be no reason to spend $1200 in such a place. I'd look into it further if I were you. Good luck Patticakes.
You Go Girl Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 The man I know (acquaintance only) that frequents these places does not go as far as this from downtown Chicago, so I know not to bother asking. I believe that review tells all. I told you already, any husband that threatens divorce over questioning the type of establishment he went to is hiding something BIG.
