Caramelize Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I am having a difficult time trying to understand why this keeps happening to me. Maybe someone can enlighten me. On dating and social networking sites: What is the point of a stranger asking to be your "friend" and then never talking to you? Even if you say Hello to them? This happens a lot! Its rude! What's the point?!
ABrokenWing Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 My only thought is they are maybe working up the nerve to talk to you.
melodymatters Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 No clue about the dating sites, but I completely agree re: social networking sites ! I do not " collect" friends, but if I have stumbled across someone who was an actual RL friend and we've lost touch, I will send a request ALONG with a nice message, asking how they are, saying that I think of them from time to time and how nice to reconnect. When they just " accept" and don't bother to write back, I want to immediatley unfrend them, because like you said " what's the point ?" It must be noted that here and there I have recieved some heartfelt letters from people telling me how I touched their lives, so I guess it all evens out and you know who your real " friends" are !!!!

adamt Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) online stuff is a fickle and shallow world. i've been online dating and i've had people who add me or email first and dont bother responding. others say they want a 2nd date but dont bother with it and stop responding.e.tc you have to realise there will be other people they are talking to. its a bit like a child when getting a new toy. just dont take it personal but there is a lot of competition online.also some jsut see it as a bit of fun. i'll admit i've done it myself. sometimes i just get bored or run out of stuff to say to someone so dont bother replying Edited March 31, 2010 by adamt
boogieboy Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You have a chance to message them before you add them. If they dont respond, you dont add them. Why would you just automatically add someone you dont know? Thats kinda stupid.
adamt Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 i add them as a favourite first then if they add me back i'll send them a message.if someone adds me first who i like then i'll just send them a message.

So whats the big deal? It was a simple question. You don't have to insult.
Engadget Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 This is why my facebook profile is literally unsearchable, with a false name as well. People can only add me if they have a friend that's a friend of mine, or I add personally add them. I'm not one of those people that needs 500 friends, that's just silly.

I also won't be or add a friend whore. Is disgusting to me.
