slatka_sarah Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 How do you all feel about the Mayans' prediction of December 2012. Does this earth only have 2.5 yrs left? Or mankind at least... I'm not sure how I feel. It's terrifying to think of. Supposedly "science has proved" quote a few thing which the Mayans documented, such as the black hole in the milky way which was discovered...what...5 yrs ago? I constantly see things on the DIscovery channel, History channel, Science TV, etc. I think it's so sad to even think of. Just something my mind can't really comprehend.
Trimmer Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I feel completely ambivalent, as I firmly believe there will be nothing different about December, 2012 than any other December. I will gladly pay you $100.000 on January 1, 2012, so you can live out your last year comfortably, if you will sign a contract to pay me $200,000 on Jan 1, 2013. If you really believe the world will end in December, then this should be a no-brainer. I am completely confident I will double my money in a year. What, exactly, do you think the "mayans' prediction of December 2012" is? Be specific: what did "the Mayans" predict? What did they say would happen? And can you quote a source that shows where and how the Mayans "documented" the black hole at the galactic center? Author slatka_sarah Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 I'm not stating that I believe all this, I just think it's a bit of a disturbing thing to think of. I think the most interesting point is in regards to the solar activity that "supposedly" may happen. The Mayans' belief does not fit with my personal religious belief, but like I said, it's a bit odd to contemplate about. http://13moon.com/prophecy%20page.htm#6
EnigmaXOXO Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I remember the big scare of December 1999 when everyone was buying lanterns and generators waiting for the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse to arrive and lay waste to all our computers and civilized life as we know it. That New Year’s Eve, the hyper anxiety all the mass hysteria had generated even bordered excitement as we all waited for the clock to strike twelve and our lights to go off. It was anti-climatic to say the least. I fully expect much of the same on December 2010. But if I’m wrong, and that meteor hits my house, there will be a split second where I’ll regret not cashing in the retirement account to build a bomb shelter instead.
LucreziaBorgia Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 The earth won't end at the end of the Mayan calendar anymore than it will end at the end of this year's calendar. The end of the world has been predicted countless times since humans were able to do so.
TaraMaiden Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Oh god, not this again.... How many threads have I seen about this since the millennium changed....?
Enema Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Well I agree with you about one thing.... I think it's so sad to even think of.
Toki Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 The benefit of Cataclysm outweighs the negative. At least I could then laugh at everyone who strove tirelessly on a meaningless career. Having that said, it's bollocks. The world will of course end when Lindsay Lohan gets off blow and decides to follow in the footsteps of Mother Theresa.
Trojan John Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Forget the Mayans. The scientists over here at CERN will destroy the world in a much cooler way.
TaraMaiden Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I had a good friend die last Sunday. I doubt he gives a pschyt about the Mayan prophecy..... In other words, it's an absolute complete and total certainty that for some, the Mayan prophecy will come true. Just not in the way they think. as Forrst Ghumph put it, Pschyt happens.
Moai Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Funny they couldn't predict the demise of the arrival of the Spanish, which destroyed them sooner than 2012.
JohnnyBlaze Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Funny they couldn't predict the demise of the arrival of the Spanish, which destroyed them sooner than 2012. There was a monologue from the show Oz that I always loved for just this reason. "So, there used to be this tribe, the Aztecs, who believed that the universe is created by violence. Every year, in what was their version of Christmas, they would cut out someone's heart and offer it up to the gods. These people were convinced that without this sacrifice, the sun would fall from the sky and the world would come to an end. Then the Spaniards landed and wiped the Aztecs off the face of the earth. Turns out they was right; the world did come to an end." - Augustus Hill It's all a matter of perspective. Tara, I'm sorry about your friend.
Rooster_DAR Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Funny they couldn't predict the demise of the arrival of the Spanish, which destroyed them sooner than 2012. Now that answer my friend is funny, and so true.

You should have seen the grocery stores back then. I was working at one and you would have though WWIII was coming. I bet people felt really stupid when it turned out that Y2K was all about nothing. As for the 2012 thing I bet it doesn't happen either.
Rooster_DAR Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Then again, I wouldn't rule out some fundamentalist group detonating a warhead in downtown New York, and everyone who believed this hoax were validated.
