Norville_Rogers Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I am so sick of shaving the hair off of my body. I would love to find a way (an inexpensive way) to permanently remove the hair on some parts of my body and never have to do this chore again. Does anyone know of such a thing?
Rearden Metal Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Hey man... There's no real cheap way to do it. Laser hair removal is expensive, and depending on the thickness/color of the hair can take several treatments and thousands of dollars. But so far, it's the only permanent method. My ex is studying esthetics, and would practice waxing on me. Super OUCH! But, no hair for 2-3 weeks AND it seemed to grow back thinner. Now that she's outta the picture, I use Veet on stubborn areas, and shave the thinner areas. I hate it, but it's a necessary evil, as I'm NOT gonna be a wooly mammoth guy.
dreamingoftigers Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I am actually having laser hair removal on my armpits and it is wonderful. It only grew back half strength after my first treatment. you can get some good deals because of the economy these days. Just do a section at a time or payments. You do save a lot in the long run.

Did you get more than one treatment? If so, how many? And if you don't mind me asking....what was the cost? I may have to go a section at a time and I don't mind that. As long as in the long run I don't ever have to do those sections ever again.
ADF Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I think I missed something--why are you shaving your whole body? Are you a swimmer or something?
Author Norville_Rogers Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 I think I missed something--why are you shaving your whole body? Are you a swimmer or something? I don't shave my whole body. I think I stated in my original post that I said some parts. I just don't like hair on certain parts of my body and want to get rid of it permanently.
Rearden Metal Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I think I missed something--why are you shaving your whole body? Are you a swimmer or something? I shave or trim my whole body, except armpits ( I even groom those though). I prefer being neat and clean.
always_searching Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Anything that destroys the root of the hair will help to permanently remove the hair. However, it isn't guaranteed, and it needs to be done for quite a long time before any permanent results can be seen. I think epilating is the cheapest and most effective method--most painful too. It is basically plucking the hairs out, damaging the root, thus allowing for the hair to grow back finer or not at all. I do it and can tell you it works. The only problem I have is with the under-arm area. I have a high pain tolerance, but, oh my God: way too painful. If you have a high pain tolerance, don't want t spend a lot of money and don't mind spending the time every couple of weeks to do it: epilation is the way to go.

So do you use a epilator or do you pluck them with a pair of tweezers? I'm almost willing to try anything...even if it causes pain. Well....not too much pain.

Well....not too much pain. Well, epilators are pretty much rows of tweezers that rotate. You just place the head of the epilator against your skin and move it across the area that you want to remove hair. The more rows of tweezers, the more effective (and less painful, I've heard) the device is, but some of them get pretty pricey. This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/Braun-5270-Silk-%C3%A9pil-Xelle-System/dp/B000EZYKTS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1269839186&sr=8-1 As far as the pain factor is concerned: a friend of mine who has gotten a number of tattoos compared the feeling of epilating that. However, after you've used it a few times, your skin toughens up to it--sort of like plucking your eyebrows. LOL, it's painful the first few times, but after that, it's nothing. Well...almost nothing. If you decide to give it a try, you'll have to let me know what you think!
taurusincus Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 As far as hair removing from the body parts is concerned the old adage is perfect to describe it ,"No Pain No Gain".
