PhillyDude Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 There is a guy at my job who always makes funny sexual jokes and when I start laughing the same two women always say "don't laugh at him" Why are they telling me not to be entertained by his sexual jokes?
CarrieT Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Because sexual jokes in a workplace atmosphere is inappropriate and by laughing, you are encouraging him. Sexual jokes are fine in the right setting, but NOT at work. The other women are right by telling you not to laugh and he should be told to not tell such jokes. When/If you laugh enough, it could escalate and then there is a whole sexual harassment issue -- did you encourage him, etc...
norajane Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Because your laughter encourages him to continue telling sexual jokes. And they don't want to hear sexual jokes at work - it makes them uncomfortable. If people stop laughing at his sexual jokes, he'll stop telling them and maybe tell funny jokes that don't make others uncomfortable.
Author PhillyDude Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 Oh Ok, even when I laugh quitely to myself I still hear one of them say-"don't laugh" lol I was like-"why are these women telling me what and what not to laugh at?
