3. How often in a month do you speak to your parent/s (on the phone and see them in person excluding major holidays -- add the two together). For example, if you talk to them over the phone about twice a week and see them in person once a month the montly total would be 9. If you never talk to them over the phone but see them about once every three months, the monthly total would be .33. Make an estimate. Please don't give me ranges because it will increase my work.

4. How close (in miles) do you live to your parent/s?

5. Who calls more often, you or your parent/s or is it about equal?

6. Assuming both are still alive who calls more often, your father or mother?

7. Do your parent/s have a happy marriage, an unhappy marriage, are they divorced, or were you raised by a single parent?

Thanks in advance!

4. about 30 miles

5. Roughly equal

6. My mother calls more but my father emails more

7. Happily married for 40 years

*One thing to note is that my contact with my parents went up dramatically after I had kids. They are doting grandparents now and the only babysitters who don't make the baby cry. I would expect kids to be a big factor in many adult familial relationships. Before I had a stepdaughter and son I spoke with/visited my parents maybe 4x a month and emailed 2-3x more, on average and again excluding major holidays. My husband's family makes him absolutely crazy but we see them at least once a month and spend holiday time with them also, mostly because of the children.

3. How often in a month do you speak to your parents - They are deceased so the rest of the questions are moot.

5. Who calls more often, you or your parent/s or is it about equal? -

6. Assuming both are still alive who calls more often, your father or mother?

7. Do your parent/s have a happy marriage, an unhappy marriage, are they divorced, or were you raised by a single parent? Before they passed away, my parents were married for 55 years. It was mostly happy except that my mother was an alcoholic and despite pleading from his daughters to leave our mother, my father never would; loving our mother until the day she died. Despite hoping he would remarry after her passing, he passed away 16 months after she did.

5. Who calls more often, you or your parent/s or is it about equal? My mum calls me more often than I call her, but only slightly

6. Assuming both are still alive who calls more often, your father or mother?

My dad never calls me randomly, only for birthdays

7. Do your parent/s have a happy marriage, an unhappy marriage, are they divorced, or were you raised by a single parent? My parents were together until I was 12. My mum was pretty much always unhappy and ended the marriage. Although they were together most of my childhood, I would say that I was raised solely by my mum

Anyone else want to add their responses to the poll before I close it?

Thanks to those who have responded so far!

Another thread I started got me wondering about familial contact and what's the norm or average for adults.

Please participate in my informal poll. If I get enough responses, I will compile the results TBF style, but I think I'll make a graph or two since I want to look at age and gender as variables. Here are the questions. Please abstain from answering if you live with your parents. If you were raised by a single parent, feel free to respond, but some of the questions will be N/A

1. Age--30

3. How often in a month do you speak to your parent/s (on the phone and see them in person excluding major holidays -- .33

4. How close (in miles) do you live to your parent/s?--300 miles

5. Who calls more often, you or your parent/s or is it about equal?--I do ALL the calling.

6. Assuming both are still alive who calls more often, your father or mother?--when my mother was alive, my mother.

7. Do your parent/s have a happy marriage, an unhappy marriage, are they divorced, or were you raised by a single parent--They were happy

These are very different stats from when my mother was alive. #3 would have been much higher. We called multiple times per day, every day, and we visited as often we could depending on where I currently lived. It's like after my mom died, my Dad fell off the planet, especially now that he's remarried.
